Hi,

I have an opportunity to pickup a Bryant Evolution Condenser unit to replace my current condenser. I currently have single stage heat and single stage air. This new unit is a dual-stage air so I'm thinking I will have to buy a new thermostat and add at least one wire from the thermostat to the furnace.

What I'm concerned about is if the Bryant Evolution unit will work with a normal dual stage thermostat, instead of the fancy Evolution touchscreen unit. I'm not interested in all the Evolution features and I don't have the furnace or any other Evolution appliance. Due to this, the Evolution terminals on the condenser (ABCD) will not be hooked up to anything.

After some research I think I need to buy the following thermostat: TSTATBBN2S01-B 2-stage heat, 2-stage air. Hopefully I can run single stage heat on it with no problems.

Thanks for any help... I'll post my system specs for reference:

Don't do it.

Your current furnace is not capable of controlling the fan speed correctly for the low stage cooling of the a/c..

I have done it in the past with modifications to the blower system but it would be best with the appropriate furnace..

The evolution is a system not just a component of a system.. Great system. but not meant as a single component replacement..

Waste of money.. If you don't want to install a new furnace then go with a hybrid-heat 15 seer single stage system with a TP-nrh/Tp-Prh thermostat or a 15 seer A/c system..

Beenthere donethat.. not worth the hassle..
Go Hybrid, save money winter and summer..

Yes, not worth it without having a 2-stage furnace that can come close to allowing the unit to perform well in both stages. And last time I checked, the 187ANA does not require the Evolution controller, but the 180ANA does, for whatever reason (could be wrong on that just going by memory).
