Is anyone familar with a residential stat that controls humidity instead of temperature?

yeah, humidistats' are used on dehumidifier units that can roll around. because dehumidifier's just remove the moisture out of the air. A humidistat senses heat in the water in the air, just the same as a thermostat senses the heat in the air.

If your problem is a humid house, you might not have the thermostat set low enough so that the air conditioner can get rid of the heated water in the air, in addition to the heat in the air. Any Questions?

I guess it's just wishful thinking, I'm sitting here with 70 degree and 48 percent humidity, thanks for writing.

well that's not too bad,

if you end up having issues when it gets a lot worse outside, call around HVAC companies in your area. See who offers the cheapest "Manual J" calculation, to calculate how many Tons of refrigeration you need. They would need the blueprints to your house if you had them.

The unit you have currently might not be sized for the heat load it's getting basically.

So far I wouldn't worry about it, haha buy a dehumidifier from Sears if you want the cheap route.

Both Honeywell and white rogers have models that will dehumidify as well as control the temp.
They work best on v/s blowers with txv's installed.
Westinghouse and maytag's iq series units come with a stat that is already set up for that.

As Zach said. Honeywell and WR both make thermostats that will cool to dehumidify.
And if you have a VS blower, they can slow the blower down which helps improve moisture removal, and lessens the amount of over cooling.
