View Full Version : Older Refrigerator – Getting Shocked

I have an older refrigerator in the shop. It has a 2 wire 110 v plug.

From the case to ground I measure 56 v. The voltage is constant even if the compressor isn’t running.

I’ve turned the plug around in the outlet – no change. I’ve checked the wiring – no bare wires touching.

Any thoughts?

Thanks -

I had the same thing happen to me many years ago. If I remember correctly there was a relay the 110v went through inside the frige and that was causing the problem. Sorry I can't be more specific. I just trashed it and bought another one...used.

At the very least, put a 3-prong grounding style plug on it and ground the chassis. Better yet, replace it.
