Too weird to not be true.

COLUMBIA, S.C. - The South Carolina funeral board has revoked the licenses of a funeral home and its director for cutting the legs off a 6-foot-7 man so his corpse would fit in a casket.

State licensing spokesman Jim Knight says the Board of Funeral Service voted Monday to revoke the funeral director license of Michael Cave and the license of Cave Funeral Services of Allendale.

Knight says the board also fined Cave the maximum $500 and ordered him to pay $1,500 for the investigation.

When I was in service I had a buddy who's father had a funeral business and this kid went to school for being an undertaker. He dropped out and ended up in the Army. But he intended to go back and work in his Dad's business.

He told me all the crap they do to corpes to get it ready to be "viewed" at a wake. Like packing the anus, sewing the eyelids closed, tying things off, filling the ears. Rubber pants and backless suit. All show biz.

My father when he died donated his body to the medical college. A year and half later they had a interment service for the ashes of a whole group of people who had also donated their bodies. The college took care of everything from the time he died. It was all done according to hiis wishes.

I think I would like to do the same thing for my kids. I don't give a ratsbutt what they do to me after I croak.:)

What did they tell the family?
But Dad was 6'7" how does he fit in this casket?
They shrink up once they dry out?
How did they think it would go unnoticed?
Instead of the old standard line everyone says , 'he looks good' Did they say 'he looks short'
I guess there are hacks in every profession, no pun intended.:D

Why are Americans so obsessed with the dead? Once you are dead you are just a rotting pile of organic mater, nothing more.

What sense dose it make to take a dead body and clean it all up, then pump it full of toxic chemicals and put new clothing on it, paint it all up, put it in a custom made fancy box, just so you can place it on display for a few hours. Then you take it and put it in a sealed vault in the ground where no one will ever see it again and the toxins won't get out into the ground water?????

We spend two or three times as much money on taking care of the dead as it costs to be born!

In other words: What is wrong with cutting a dead guy up a little so he fits in a standard over priced coffin?

I think I can answer most of those questions in one word. MONEY. Me, I'm gonna go the cremation route. I'll be looking into the donation thing too.

The whole thing is ridiculous, the guy has a standard Social Security grave marker. So I figure someone knew and didn't want to pay for anything above the standard coffin.

Sometimes it's unbelievable what the government will get involved with, when there's plenty of real problems out there. Case in point is the old guy who the goverment is trying to send back to Germany to face trial because he "may" have been a guard at a concentration camp. They tied up six agents, three judges, and god only knows how many other people, for someone who has one foot in the grave, the other foot on some well greased banana peels. Mean while, we have illegal alien gang members threatening school children. BTW an Israel court could not find him guilty, even with him being absent.

You know, you are right, when I die I want to be dressed in my play clothes. When my uncle was laid out in a box about a year ago, he was wearing a suit, and it did not fit his character. I thought he would have looked a lot cooler in his bandanna, leather vest, jeans, bikers boots, and Harley tee shirt. I seen him at a funeral for another relative previous, and he showed up at the wake in an old sweat shirt with a tattered collar, and blue jeans.

You are exactly right. Morticians and funeral directors do a good job of creating the belief that a lot of things are needed or required and most people aren't really thinking during that time anyway. It is also inferred some times that the amount spent on the funeral is a measure of love for the deceased. I have griped about this for years.
