Ok guys.. This one is for the books, Im new to these forums and this is my first post, so I hope i have it in the right section...

I have a customer, he owns a 1930's "Globe Top" Monitor Top Domestic single door refrigerator.

http://i232.photobucket.com/albums/ee77/ricke69420/samp/1933_monitor_top_globe_13122411_std.jpg

Looks exactly like this one.

Now from what I see and read, this thing is hermetically sealed. (I can hear the compressor inside of it)

The compressor is not starting and the customer says he does not care how much money to fix it he just wants it done.

I can fix it once I get in, but I was wondering if anyone might have an idea on how I can open this thing so It can be somewhat aesthetically pleasing. Thanks for any input !

Well this guy seems to be attached, he said he dont care what it takes to fix it. Is there anyway I can open it easily so I can repair it? And so that it can go back nice and neatly?

The book is called "Servicing Hermetically Sealed Units" by Nickerson and Collins. Another one is "Audels Air Conditioning and Refrigeration" guide. (get an old publication date)

I don't have a globe top but on my other GE monitor tops the starting control can be problematic. (ex: pitted starting relay contacts)

Fortunately the sealed refrigeration system is pretty robust as long as the evaporator is stainless steel vs rusted cast iron.
