I didn't know you could be fined for not answering / giving false answers.
13 USC Sec. 221
TITLE 13 - CENSUS
CHAPTER 7 - OFFENSES AND PENALTIES
SUBCHAPTER II - OTHER PERSONS
Sec. 221. Refusal or neglect to answer questions; false answers
(a) Whoever, being over eighteen years of age, refuses or willfully neglects, when requested by the Secretary, or by any other authorized officer or employee of the Department of Commerce or bureau or agency thereof acting under the instructions of the Secretary or authorized officer, to answer, to the best of his knowledge, any of the questions on any schedule submitted to him in connection with any census or survey provided for by subchapters I, II, IV, and V of chapter 5 of this title, applying to himself or to the family to which he belongs or is related, or to the farm or farms of which he or his family is the occupant, shall be fined not more than $100.
(b) Whoever, when answering questions described in subsection (a) of this section, and under the conditions or circumstances described in such subsection, willfully gives any answer that is false, shall be fined not more than $500.

Something fishy in the 'census' business. Check out this link, and the pdf file it links to showing the new census form.
http://worldnetdaily.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pageId=99337
'''''''While many recipients may consider the questionnaire to be tedious and meddling, the Census Bureau warns that citizens are required by law to complete it and may be fined as much as $5,000 for willfully refusing. While an individual may feel uneasy about answering each question truthfully, the fine for filing false information can be as much as $500. ''''''
I have no explanation as to why our sourced fines do not match.

If I read that correctly, it's $5,000.00 for refusing, and $500.00 for lying. But, I could be wrong. Either way, it just ain't right. Or it could be a misprint. I wonder who would enforce this "law"?

Do we know for sure he's even a legal citizen?
I'm pretty well convinced that that is not something that would not have been proven. The fact about that issue is that the president did comply with every legal requirement to show his citizenship by birth. All the president really did was to refuse to do any more then he had to in order to defend himself against those who did not accept the legal compliances.
That little move may have been legit, but it further showed what an elitist our president is in the fact that he does not need to answer to the American people.

Facebook is privately owned. I highly doubt Russian investors would spend 200m on a Federal Agency in the US.
Never been on this site before sometime in the middle of this week. Not sure what you mean by "blasting my way" on to this site. If you're implying that you thought my question for you was rude in some way, that was not my intent. I just noticed in another thread that you mentioned to someone about not using the  smiley to show their sarcasm, and though you were being sarcastic in your reply about facebook, so I had to ask.

No flip-flop. The Bush Admin., like the Clinton Admin. before, blew it big time with Islamic terrorism (WTC bombings in 93 and 01, for example). The information was out there to stop both attacks, but our government can never seem to get their ducks in one row, thus the observation, weak and ineffective.
The other thread you are referring to is on another totally different subject.

Back to the original thread(not that this other stuff isn't interesting, it is), I see no way they can possibly enforce a fine for not talking to them.Sounds like you will have to fight it though.
There is a private property issue, then to be compelled to give information to someone that is not an active duty police officer( who has to have a legitimate reason to ask), sounds a bit beyond what is legally required of a citizen.

Are they going to enforce this with all the illeagles? Doubt it. Why is it so difficult for our gov't to enforce illeagle regulations but will go after any and all natural citizens for not taking part in a stupid census? I hate to say it but the gov't regulations are so far out of hand it may be too late to ever recover. I would have never thought we would be forced tell them anything.

Having done 5 or so special censuses between the 2000 Census and now, the census taker is not allowed to observe what race the person is as in past censuses (before 1990, I think). Obama would have a number of choices that he might make. The person must select from a list of racial descriptions what they consider themselves to be. One very annoying response was that many people can not differentiate, as hard as the census taker tried, between country and ethnicity. Dah! There's only white, black, red, yellow and Pacific Islander (not necessarily the exact description of the choices given).
Had a young lady from a specific South American country who was extremely offended by people trying to describe her as Hispanic. By the way Hispanic is NOT the same as Spanish.

Census workers are subject to some fine like $250,000 or more for discussing specific occupants. Many things are based on the census numbers and input like schools, old age stuff, Congressional Representatives, etc. Besides, don't you want your relatives to be able to see things about you after you are long gone. I believe that they just released the 1930 Census data.
PS: Did you know that they lost almost all of the Census data for 1890, I think.

The Census Bureau is specifically forbidden from releasing the information gathered to any enforcement agency. Who would agree to answer questions if they could. Census workers are subject to heavy fines for releasing any information they gather or observe. They are even in a tough position if they observe illegal activities while doing their work other than crimes on the street.
The special Censuses I worked in hired translators for a number of foreign languages in order to collect data.
Remember, the Census data is anonymous and supports things like money for your kids schools, Mom and Dad who are retired, health care, etc.

In turn, as a census worker with the final mandatory responsibility for contacting the occupant, I did NOT appreciate the several houses with signs "You Are Close Enough to Shoot". And it wasn't in "the middle of the woods" either.
Overall, if people gave us a chance to explain the need, they were quite approachable. The people I really felt sorry for were the older folks and single women who were very fearful of opening the door to even talk (we were told not to enter any homes but to stay at the door - nearly impossible when hospitable Asian Indians were the occupants).
We gave the tough cases to people I'll call "closers". One of the best closers we had in one census was a retired minister. I guess he had the people skills down, hey? Another one of the best closers in another census was a lady I called "bull dog". Don't know what she did but she got her done.
A husband and wife that worked for me volunteered to canvas the homeless camps. Now that was something. Don't think I would have done that. The ones I enjoyed were following up at the sorority houses at the campus. The fraternities were not as much fun and their houses didn't look exactly like the sororities either. Think I'll have my grandson join a sorority if he gets to college.

The ones I enjoyed were following up at the sorority houses at the campus. The fraternities were not as much fun and their houses didn't look exactly like the sororities either. Think I'll have my grandson join a sorority if he gets to college.
Very interesting jerry. So what if I live at a legal 'construction-site'.
I have no rooms, technically. I cannot get homeowners insurance and I cannot get a home loan. This is acreage. This is a tad like the old game show, " door number ONE!, door number TWO!!, or Door number THREE!!!!".
I have a door. I have a mailing address, same as 911 address. How do I answer such question as the pdf file I loosely linked earlier?
Can I just get a PO box# and avoid the hassle?
Maybe I should run away and join the circus? :D

LOFL Robo, and when I get my form, guess what? My electricity breaks, water-line breaks, phone goes out, you get the idea,... it is a survey of the highest mis-information possible. Just like last time. Head-count, that is all.

I know you guys are having some fun, but we were required to go to ANY place that could have residents, even those living in tents or in their car. Had to ask every business if there was anybody living on the premises. Yes, it is a head count. That's what determines things involving Federal money, Guys.
All of the censuses I worked on were "Special" between the 10 year census which means the towns involved actually paid the Census Bureau to perform them. The reason: Federal Money. This is serious $$$$ in a fast growing area.
Hope nobody got cranky with you. To my knowledge none of the people I worked with in two states and 5 towns from large to small (not real sure how "bull dog" got the info) ever got testy with occupants.

What part of "...shall not be infringed" dont you understand?
Richard, the Census is mandated by the Constitution. Maybe we should pick on Ben Franklin and Tom Jefferson and the rest of those rebels.
Again, I know that you guys are just blowing some steam after a hard day. Those Census workers make small $ and have to knock on strange doors all day - pit bulls, heard of people with guns, some really scary people and places that our female workers frequently handed off to the boss, etc. Right now there are probably a few people who would relish that job for 40 hours/week for maybe 6 months. I know I did it when I had no other income.

Thanks for the reply Jerry, I am just a paranoid gun/bible-clinger so I naturally get worried over reports of census over extensions of duty.
Like you said, "just a head count" so no need to worry. Thank you for indulging my foolishness with a reply.

Tool-Slinger, no problem. In fact I grew up with a couple of paranoid gun/(delete the bible part) clingers, but we all came from Michigan. I love guns too but we have some of the most interesting discussions mostly about what the right to bear arms means. Two against one. They usually try to kick my butt. The other favorite topics are religion and politics. Again two against one. Why do I always feel like I'm being picked on? Good thing we go back to 1st or 2nd grade or I would think they don't like me.

I am going to give you all the best advice you will ever get for dealing with any government agency;
"Never give any government agency any information on you that they don't already know unless there is a direct and immediate monetary benefit for you to do so."

it is required by the constitution for a head count per se, but divulging all of the other info that they want is not.it is not their buisiness how many bed rooms or toilets you have.or what you spend on household expenses. that is whole problem here. i dont think folks care about telling how many live in a house, it is all the other nosy crap that is nobodys business. and by the way,the right to bear arms is just that, the right to bear(carry, show or other wise have on your person). the right to keep means to have in your home or in your posession, to own and have. if you choose not to then that is your right,my right is not to be a victim,to criminals or tyrants, just as the founding fathers INTENDED
