I'm having my HVAC system completely replaced due to failed compressor in AC packaged unit. The new unit, as of right now, is a Trane XL14c gas/elec unit, setting outside at end of house. I'm not sold on the elec air cleaners, so was thinking about installing the Lennox 'Pureair' or HC-16, if possible, in this Trane system. I will have 2 return ducts in the attic, very hot attic I might add, that drop into a chase and exit under the house and run to the unit. First, can the 'Pureair' be used with the Trane system or do I need a Lennox unit? Secondly, if so, can the 'Pureair' be installed in the attic in line with the return ducts? This would be easiest access. Also, does it need to be installed vertical or can it be installed horizontal in the chase with access from a large closet?
Thanks for any help?

It can be used with any unit. It should be attached to the return side of the unit and they can be installed in the attic. and can be installed in any position.

Thanks for the reply, so I assume the heat in the attic won't effect the efficiency of the filter and I also assume the return air should pass thru the merv 16 filter first?

The air cleaner is rated for 0-140 degrees outside the duct and 10-60% relative humidity. The air cleaner can be installed in any position, but if installed with the door facing up, it requires some special clips. Yes the air flow is through the merv 16 media filter first.
