part is on a hussman reach-in. Looks like a filter drier in that it is mounted in the liquid line but there is also a standard liquid line downstream of this part.
Is a filter drier? Maybe a charge compensator?

Maybe its a muffler on the discharge line yo.

This could be what is called a terminator. If this store is older then they could of used the terminator for energy savings. critical charged racks back in the day. acts as a liquid storage device. is it blue by any chance? They didn't last too long. I still see cases with them installed every now and then.

Is it similar to this? The one pictured here is an ALCO brand, though. It's what frozen-ocean is describing. R-22.
