condeming this unit is not enough call the local utility & have them locked out until repairs are made if they do not want to replace with metal asap.

Customer bought the house last October. The house inspector said the AC system was in good shape. I don't think he looked in the attic. Probably looked at condenser and checked temp. difference between supply and return. Since inspectors are no EPA cretified they can't hook-up guages. I advised the customer that the system needed to be replaced ASAP and if water leaks occured it would not be my problem in view of the state of the cooling coil and safety pan. Went back later today and reviewed pictures taken with them. I believe they are going to contact the state agency that licenses home inspecters next week.

I can't quite make out what I'm looking at. Is that a cooling coil in a wooden enclosure w/ an air handler or furnace down stream?
The drain pan is funny. Hey, they make boats out of wood don't they?

Air handler is in the rear, cooling coil cabinet in forground is made out of 1/4" plywood and so is safety pan. The coil cabinet (American Standard) must have rusted out. and this was the homeowners solution. Cabinet was insulated too. Have to admit nice fiberglass job with cloth layed in corners for support. He worked for Western Electric I was told. No cooling was the call. Found coil drain line running up hill and safety pan catching water. No wet spot on ceiling though. I corrected pitch on coil drain line.

i WOULDNT HAVE TOUCHED A TING ON IT AT ALL TILL THEY SAID WE WERE REPLACING IT. imo AS SOON AS YOU TOUCH ANY PART OF IT YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE.
that looks like a pretty crappy attic to be working in.

But that is one of your interests, isn't it? Paid me well as it always does on the weekend. Was invited back to the birthday party they were having too.

That's about standard around here, very few that you can stand erect in and you usually end up doing the joist walk.

Simply Amazing. Although the woodwork looks halfway decent.

Got a call the other day from the home owner. They hired someone to remove a partition wall and make one big room out of two. Ceiling fell in one of the rooms and they wanted me to reinstall the supply vent. Seems that when the whole house fan was installed years ago in the hallway the rafters were not boxed in after they were cut.

What's wrong with that? The wood was varnished right? Hahaha, classic man, great pics.

It's obvious: He should have used dovetail jointery instead of a simple butt joint.

Glad you did I probably never would have seen this if you hadn't...that is incredible using wood like that. If I was the buyer of that home I would be wondering what in the heck else the homeowner handyman had "fixed" around there...LOL

Thanks for digging this thread up. I had forgot about posting the pics of it.
May still be running, haven't seen it since that call.
