Trane's XL14c gets 10 years compressor / coil and 5 years parts.

My contractor wrote 10 years parts on the quote. Do I assume this overrides the Trane website 5 year parts warranty info?

I'm also looking at Lennox Signature line. Looks like these have a 10/10/limited lifetime on parts/compressor/heat exchanger.

Is "heat exchanger" another term for coils?

A heat exchanger is typical terminology for a furnace. A refrigerant coil is for the refrigeration circuit.

Heat exchanger generally refers to a furnace.

Okay thanks. So I guess between these two, the Lennox is better in that it has 10 years on parts to Trane's 5 years.

Are the 10 year labor warranties that dealers sell within the first year typically a good idea? I understand labor for some routine service calls can get pretty expensive.

They are a good idea.

Most people don't like hearing that they owe money for a part that went out under warranty.

Keep in mind. Service cost will cost more 5 years from now. So that labor warranty can save you a fair amount of money, if you have a problem.

Keep in mind that most labor warranies offered by installers require you to sign up for a service contract. Over the life of the warranty period, this can frequently exceed the labor costs of any repairs. Make sure you run the numbers before you automatically assume this is a freebie.

Trane's better stuff is now 10 year parts to the original registered owner.

Heat exchanger refers to said part of a gas furnace. Coils would be described as coils.

So if the warranty says 10 years compressor, 10 years parts and lifetime heat exchanger, would coil fall under 'parts'?

In the packaged HP's I'm looking at, Trane's top-end XL16c is indeed 12 year compressor, 10 year parts and coil. But the XL14c steps down to 10 years compressor / coil and 5 years on parts.
