I live in Ontario Canada and to qualify for the government rebate program I need to move up from a 14seer Goodman SSX14 - 14 SEER with R-410A Refrigerant to a unit over 14.5 seer .Goodman sells the following 16 seer units what's the difference? is one better then the other?
SSX16 - 16 SEER R-410A Refrigerant
DSX16 - 16 SEER R-410A Refrigerant

From the specs looks like Goodman took the premium features of the Amana ASX16 unit and put them in units labeled Goodman. It's a higher feature set unit, with high/low pressure switches, 2-stage compressors in all sizes, compressor sound blanket, Copeland diagnostics, etc. SSX16 is 2-stage in only the 5 ton size.

Depending on the system size, and choice of furnace/air handler, the SSX14 can get up to 15 SEER.

Check the AHRI performance data in the above link for your size and matching air handler.

If i were to go with the Goodman 95% AFUE GMV95 furnace and the Goodman SSX14 2.5 ton Air Conditioner would I get a seer rating above 14.5 and how do they document that to the government when the ac is rated in the brochure as 14 seer.

You need the model number of the matching coil and a complete furnace model number.

Once you have these 2 model numbers, go to
www.AHRIdirectory.org

Under "Residential", click on "Air conditioners and air conditioning coils".
Next page, type in "SSX14030" under "Outdoor unit model number".
Type in "G" under "Furnace model number". Press "search".

You get 155 matches. Find the coil model number and furnace model number for your matching system.

You can print out an official AHRI Certificate that states the SEER and EER.

I taped my Certificate to the side of my air handler :)

Good luck.

I am having the same system installed in Ontario as well. I went with the 90,000Btu GMV95 furnace, and 2.5 ton SSX14 a/c. My contractor picked a coil that acheives the requirements for all of the rebates: 14.5 SEER with SSX14 condenser and chosen evaporator coil, and 15 SEER when the furnace is included in the efficiency calculation (15 SEER is required for the OPA's Tier 2 rebate).

Here are the ARI #'s which will give you all of the components being installed if you go to the AHRI directory site listed above:

ARI # 3262597 to qualify for ecoEnergy rebates
ARI # 3000063 to qualify for OPA Tier 2 rebate

Keep in mind that although there are 2 ARI numbers, they are the same system.... the only difference being that the first one does not include the furnace in calculating the efficiency.
