Hi. I'm looking for information on the age, size, efficiency, etc of my AC and furnace. My understanding is the AC is "old" and the furnace is not, but I'd like to see if I can attach numbers to these units.
outdoor AC unit is:
Carrier
Model 38EN030300
Serial S565601
Furnace is
Carrier
Model 58MXA08-12
Serial 3496A06075
Any info is appreciated.
Thanks
-chris
The a/c appear to be 2.5tons.
Furnace most likely 80000 BTUs based on the model number.

that a/c serial # doesn't look right.............EN's are from the 80's
that furnace is a '96 model

Thanks for the responses.
I Double checked the AC numbers, and they are right. Then I happened to look at the back side of the box where the electrical connection is made and saw the date of manufacture - 05-85!! So the 80s is correct.
Regarding the furnace - given the 1996 date and the fact that I haven't had problems with it, should I be thinking about replacing it if/when I replace the AC? or should I only think about replacing it if it can't do something that I want done with the new set-up (e.g., VS blower)?

This depends on what you are wanting to get out of the new condensing unit. If you are looking for a higher efficiency system that qualifies for the Federal Tax Credit and be eligible for Carrier Cool Cash then you should change the FAU. Otherwise keep the furnace until it's used up.

The condenser you have had a SEER rating of abput 8.5 when it was new. You can buy a much more efficient condenser today. You have until Dec. 31 2010 to make a purchase to qualify for the Federal tax credit.
If you were to replace both furnace and condenser, you could receive rebates, efficiency savings, and the Federal tax credit. The purchase becomes attractive when you add up all the numbers.
