Will a trane XV80 2 stage variable speed gas furnance with the 3 ton Trane XL 15i Heat Pump qualify for the new engery tax credits?
I have been told that it will but I need to confirm.

Without tax credit the system is about the same price as a 95% efficient furnance Carrier and American Standard quoted with 15 seer heat pump. You do get the tax credit.
Worried about the Trane dealer telling me the system did qualify.

The 3-ton XL15i qualifies for the Fed Tax Credit if an Aspen coil is used (model# C*48D44) and the furnace is Trane Model# *UD1B080A9HB. Not sure of the difference between the furnaces.

That match-up is AHRI Reference# 3376609. 36,000 btu cooling, 15.5 SEER, 12.5 EER, 37,200 btu heating at 47F, 8.8 HSPF.

Take care.

OK,
Thanks for the info.
I am using the furnance for backup heat only.
The heat pump will do most of the work.

The 37,200 btu heating is slightly above the nominal 3-ton size of 36,000 btu, so you're getting a good bang for your buck with the heat output using a 3rd party coil. I would want to know if that 3rd party coil gets the same warranty as a Trane evap coil.

Take care.

Why do people keep calling it a rebate?

It is a credit. There's a HUGE difference in those two words.
