Diceman,Read the Nra magazine, possibly become a member, from their advice and facts,If the crooks think or know you are armed, they lay off...but as the lady said, you could get into situations where possibly, you would make other decisions if you did not have gun..Cant understand Geers post, most time he's wanting to smoke someone...heard of mace, pepper spray, not smoke.LM

Thanks Dex, I really only carry it for security. Sometimes late at night in bad areas and cars tailing me real close, I feel better knowing I have it, at least I can do something. If someone robs me, or pisses me off I ain't going for it. They can have my money as I would never use it for something so trivial, only if I, or someone else was in real danger of going to the promised land. In that case, hey, I'm sorry but I got 3 kids, a wife and a few more years left under my belt. I keep it loaded with hollow points too.Ouch.

I know you have a family! that's all good. Carrying
a gun would get you into trouble.

triking,

Guns are trouble for people who don't know how to handle a gun, and for people who don't understand the firearm.

Education and training are paramount. I don't believe that a disciplined person, a person who understands the firearm, is going to put his/her family in harms way.

I believe that the diceman falls into that category. There may be some crazies out there who think that carrying a firearm is like Popeye carrying his can of spinach. I know it ain't that way, and I believe that the diceman knows that, too.

If your going to carry, first thing you do is talk to your lawyer. If you take it out and just wave it around your in trouble, justified or not. If you shot someone, justified or not, you will spend a VERY long time in court. You will get sued for wrongfull death, and you will probubly go bankruped tring to defend yourself. On the otherhand you'll be alive. Carry a gun is a REALLY big deal, I don't mean to preach but you better understand whats going to happen should an emergency arrise. If it is a justifiable shoot, a judge or grand jury will probably toss it out, but if it is questionable you could be in for a long day. And if you hit an innocent bystander- kiss your *ss goodby
Have fun!!

jmc,

truer words were never spoken. I'm not too sure about talking to the lawyer first. I do side with you on the careful consideration about the use of lethal force. But I'd rather spend my time in court than spend eternity pushing up daisies.

Do you know what kills more people in this country than guns? Doctors! kill more people by accident, than: hart attack, motor vehicle accidents, lung cancer, kidney failure diabeties, COMBINED. best not catch a cold!!!

they really cover each others butt. Unlike our profession, they will never, ever bad mouth a fellow physician. An unwritten code. One more thing about doctors, they bury their mistakes.

Diceman I am behind you 110%! I have worked in KC & St Louis & carry a 44 Desert Eagle when I work in these citys. I carry my gun in a shoulder holster in plain site & have never had a problem. Some customers even tell me they respect me for being forward about it! I have never seen a gun that pulls its own trigger! If the criminal element knows you have a gun they will think twice & more than likely go find an easier victim. I for one would rather be judged by 12 than carried by 6!

A 44 Desert Eagle, no wonder no messes with you, that is a cannon, dirty Harry would be proud.

Just read the estimate of people killed by medical goofs is between, get this, 48,000 and 100,000. I guess it's such a wide discrepancy because no one can really prove it, like I said Dr's. cover each others butt. Thats more people killed by Doctors, and or hospital personel, than by breast cancer, aids or car wrecks. Or this many; 3 completely full jumbo jets crashing every other day for a year.

Tin bender, aren't you a little worried about shooting through the bad guys, the house next door, their two kids, the office building down the block, and 2 chevys.
God bless, thats ALOT of firepower.

Next time I get an appendectomy, I'm just going to take it out myself on the kitchen table, with a spoon, I'll stand a better chance of survival, or I'll get tin bender to get it out with that desert eagle at close range??

It is loaded with bullets designed for law-inforcement in citys, you can shoot through a piece of 1/2 plywood & they will not go through 1/2 sheet rock 5' behind the plywood. The bullet is similar to shotgun shot formed in wax once the bullet hits it disitegrates. I have never shot anything but targets with it, Hope I never have to! I have never taken it out of its holster except to target shoot!

Diceman, I'm with you. I personally I don't carry although I have a permit to carry a concealed weapon. But if I lived in an area that I felt threatened... you bet my .357 would be on my side, otherwise it's locked up in the house SAFELY. Just use your head and all is cool. (People hear 'gun' and they think of the crazed criminals, we're not all like that).

Ah, but there is no demilitirized zone. ;-)

Nobody really wants to shoot anyone but it is nice to know that one will make it home to the Fam again. I work significant amounts at night, no-heats, leaks, all that and everybody knows servicemen collect cash sometimes, especially in a lettered truck. It almost says rob me on the side. I'm always armed at night.

Once on a commercial no heat at night some punks came driving up just as I was gettin in my truck and started mouthing off immediately but I was able to make it into my truck and just grinned at them and drove off. They followed me for a few blocks and got bored with me not stopping and dropped off my tail.

If I'da been 50 ft from my truck instead of beside it when they drove up, who knows what could've transpired? If they're going to get you at all its going to be outside the truck. You can't carry a DE or a GM onto a jobsite and work but them little NAA 22 mini revolvers are good for the walk back to the truck (or a P-32) just be extra cautious with such small arms until you can get in the truck to your Desert Eagle :-) or GM or uzi.

I never did get my CCW permit. I threw the packet away as it was too intrusive and conflicted with something I heard about the Constitution and not having to pay for the excercise of a right...YMMV.

Actually, sodadude thinks he may be a threat to this 9mm thread because he started one about womens breast. I didn't have the heart to tell him that this subject was covered here back in '03 or there abouts.

Sodadude is one conservative Yankee and he doesn't get out much.:D

How many dead frogs are in your pool right now?
I think you need to close it up for the year.
Go ahead.... get going.....right now I said.
And then start jogging, perhaps a visit to Jenny Craig is in order. Come back when you lose your beer belly, that ought to take a few years or so...:D

Is it an in ground pool or an above ground pool?

Anyone watch Mythbusters? The other night they were testing how deep you would need to be submerged in water to be protected from various firearms. Interestingly, low speed rounds traveled deeper (don't remember the exact depths) and would penetrate into the ballistic gel targets . High speed rounds would break up into harmless shrapnel within 18-24 inches. I didn't catch all the guns they shot, but I remember they tested the m-1 garand and a .50 caliber rifle.
