I am reposting this in the correct section.
All,
This is my first post in the forum. I am unclear as to what my options are. I am an electrician by trade so I can do anything control wise, but lack in the HVAC dept. So hopefully someone can help lean me the right direction
I have a 1200 square foot house located in NJ. There is a lot of trees located around my house and its on a slab so It generally stays cooler.
I want to install and A/C system, I just installed forced hot air myself so i know the duct work setup pretty well.
Now what I am looking to do is have my bedroom on a seperate zone since its just me and my wife I would like to at night only have my bedroom a/c and put the rest of the house on A/C during the days we want it or when we have company. From my understanding I wouldnt be able to zone just the bedroom because it will freeze due to not having enough space to cool, and also most likely sound like a rocket ship. ( i guess its possible with pressure sensors etc) I though of two options around this. I can do a Ductless for the bedroom and a regular house unit for the rest. The other option I though is to buy two air handlers, but can you tie it into 1 compressor? I know you can for some of the ductless systems, but I havent seen a dual zone air handler for a ducted system. Maybe this does not exists or make sense? The problem I have with the first option is the smallest ductless system I could find was 12000 btu's 1 ton, but I don't need anywhere near that big. I do like though that they are heat pumps as well though which is nice. Can someone point me the right direction. I am flexable to any way as long as its not big dollars. I am able to get scratch and dent units very cheap.
