I was wondering if someone can offer their opinion on the following system:
Goodman SSZ160361 paired with AEPF313716. I currently have a 1995, Trane XE1000 unit and looking at taking advantage of the tax credit and replacing it before it dies. The installer is a friend of mine whose worked on the commercial side for years and installs residential to friends and family on the side. I have researched the outdoor unit and it seems like it has some good reviews. He isn't familiar with the handler. When he called Goodman for a price, that's the unit they paired with it. I can't find anything on the air handler? Can anyone give some insight on this combo or offer any suggestions on a different air handler? BTW - I live in Southern MD and the reason why I was attracted to the SSZ16 is the 9.5 hspf and the price he gave me. Should be a big difference from the 7 hspf I currently have.

Edit: I don't know how I missed it, but I just saw the specs on the air handlers on Goodman's site. Any pros/cons from the AEPF vs. ASPF or any of the other ones?

Much appreciated!

Mike

The ASPF is a fixed speed blower, not a VS blower. Installer sets speed, and that what it runs at.
So you don't get enhanced humidity removal/control with it.

i installed that exact system about 3 yrs ago in a 4 ton horizontal application, customer was very happy with it and i havent heard from them in 3 years so obviously it must still be working great.

Hmm that reminds me i have to send them a letter reminding them its time for a checkup :)

SSZ16036 condenser matched with AEPF313716 air handler:
33,000 btu cooling, 16 SEER, 12.5 EER, 34,400 btu heating at 47F, 9.5 HSPF

Same condenser matched with ASPF313716 air handler:
34,600 btu cooling, 15.5 SEER, 12.5 EER, 34,600 btu heating at 47F, 9.5 HSPF
The ASPF has the "energy-saving" air handler motor which is not variable speed.

Both systems are rated with a TXV installed at the indoor coil. A TXV is optional for Goodman. Make sure you get it.

There is another v-s air handler match for that condenser: AEPF426016.
That gets 34,600 btu cooling, 13 EER, and 9.75 HSPF. All other performance numbers are same as AEPF313716.

Good luck.

I miss-typed. I meant to state SSZ. I'll fix.

Thanx.

Thank you everyone for your replies. This is exactly the info I was looking for. I'll have him call back and see what the cost difference is between the two units, but I would assume it's mot much from what I've seen while looking just now online.

acguytx: Yes, I installed the Vision Pro 8321 a few months ago, so I should be set with that.

Thanks again,

Mike
