I need to know how to figure btu's per square feet.

First of all, you just posted in the practice area when you should have posted in the general, residential or commercial areas.
There is no such thing as BTUH per square foot. Anyone who uses such a number to attempt to size a system is kidding themselves. You need to consider insulation values of walls, ceilings and floors. You need to consider window area, internal heat generating appliances, people giving off heat and a host of other things.
A load calculation requires the use of manual J or a software package such as the one posted and hosted by the company operating this website. Download a copy from the top of this webpage and take a look.
