Not positive. A cooler is a refrigerant flooded vessel, and between the impeller and the refrigerant are usually baffles to minimize liquid carry over into the impeller eye. Carryover etches the wheel, kinda like sand blasting. This one wasn't a victim of that. Neither were this one, brand new, hand grenaded before machine came up to speed, and took out the second wheel and the casting :eek2: These are approx. 4' in diameter, 40k apiece, and difficult to obtain (8 months) due to age of machine and the fact this country doesn't build anything anymore.

WTF do you do while waiting for parts?

Obviously, the machine cannot run. With an 8 month wait, what happens to the process that the machine was designed for? Is there a 'back-up' machine or a portable type that can be brought in or is customer just S.O.L?

My customers scream when something can't be brought in within a weeks time. I can't imagine what a manager would say if I told them it was an 8 month wait for a compressor! :couchhide:

Morning JP.
Machine hasn't run in 3 years due to manufacturing problems. Machine is a heat recovery, so, it is able to run all year round. It's for comfort cooling/heating. Yes, it has back up.
And, I can't understand, plaese try to explain this. It can produce about 110,115 degree water, which is enough to heat in chicago, where design is 0. They have back up electric water heaters. Electric heaters are more costly to use, from what I've been told. Elecrtric water heaters are more efficient, I would think, being able to get 100% out of it, where spinning a machine that uses energy to compress freon, and then heat transfer to water, AND those motors were designed in the 40's, which makes them energy hogs,. somehow my abacus doen't carry over enough decimal points to make sense.

If I had to guess (and I guess I am volunteering to guess) the difference is that using electric heat creates the heat from electricity (from "zero to BTUs") and the machine is used to MOVE the EXISTING heat (BTUs there to BTUs here) rather than create the heat.

Make sense?

The first law of thermodynamics, an expression of the principle of conservation of energy, states that energy can be transformed (changed from one form to another), but cannot be created or destroyed.

Correct. Cheaper to move heat than to make it.

We were granted the position in designing the GeoExchange System and directing the Mech Eng. on the Brentwood College School's new Dining Hall here at home. We had built the first 'Ocean Coupled' system about 8 years before and with this building we got them to put in a 40' X 4'W X 8'D gray water heat recovery pit. We then connected that to 6 heat pumps that are our own design that heat domestic hot water up to 170 degF. It is the the first of their kind and we used 404a scrolls running on another refrigerant.

We only have one problem....we are recycling TOO much heat. We have to dump to the building loop/campus loop/ocean loop probably twice a day.....

The building should save approx. $150,000/yr in energy and pay for the $1M ocean loop infrastructure in 5-6 years....

MOVE IT DON'T BURN IT!!!

we want to rebuild some old mcquay splits that are up on a tall roof and sorta built into the building

i wanted to use the frame and put in new condenser coils, evaporator coils ,

the only thing is we would need to get it a seer rating for leed points!!!!!!!!

how do we do that????

if anybody would know? you would!!!

Frank, BC is a province. My dad was born in New Westminster.

As to the difference between a province and a territory, it probably goes back a while to when the territory was not a fully "settled" area.

I'll bet a territory is treated as a province, today.

Google is your friend:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Provinces_and_territories_of_Canada

It all boils down to our Confederation.

You could say that a Province is like a state in that different Provinces have different Provincial laws and different States have different State laws. But both ultimately answer to the Federal Government.

Better than last. I actually clocked a few over 40, and I don't have the on-call this weekend. I talked to Frank, and I asked him to check in with his boss on potential hires.

I also read the pdf for Bruce's position. I was doing ok until I got the the bilingual part. Yo hablo un poco Espanol.

If I have to. I've been trying to crack the LU 420 guys for several years now, and they are slow, unlike other areas of the country.

I have about 15 or 20 good working years left going up and down ladders, and I'd like to not have to struggle financially.

Just show them the knife or gun collection when they show up to pick her up.

Alternatively go hunting and get some deer heads mounted on plaques and then have one empty plaque. Look at the curious young fellow and say in a very low tone "I still have one plaque I have yet to fill..."

If that doesn't appeal to you, you can always watch this smiley and figure something out.

Bret ..hope all is well..Well have not been here for a spell but hope everyone is doing okay..about last Monday my better half had the same problem with heart rate high and blood pressure going thru the roof. Took him to the VA in Dallas ( great hospital). After test and nitro given it was a chemical imbalance in his system. Not enough potassium..?? What ???
so with the week behind us and mega doses and now with the daily requirements he is 1oo% better..go figure. He told me Friday that he has not felt this good in years. Icehouse take care and hope it is just that..but if not you are in our thoughts and prayers and take care of yourself..

JP....for some reason I can't view in Canada...eh!? Something about a copyright violation...???

For us Canucks...it about this... http://www.redfridays.ca/emailstory.htm
and this:

Red Shirt

If the red shirt thing is new to you, read below how it went for a man...

Last week, while traveling to Toronto on business, I noticed an army sergeant traveling with a folded flag, but did not put two and two together.

After we boarded our flight, I turned to the sergeant, who'd been invited to sit in First Class ( across from me), and inquired if he was heading home.

'No', he responded.

'Heading out', I asked?

'No. I'm escorting a soldier home.'

'Going to pick him up?'

'No. He is with me right now. He was killed in Afganistan, I'm taking him home to his family.'

The realization of what he had been asked to do hit me like a punch to the gut. It was an honour for him. He told me that, although he didn't know the soldier, he had delivered the news of his passing to the soldier's family and felt as if he knew them after many conversations in so few days.

I turned back to him, extended my hand, and said, 'Thank you. Thank you for doing what you do so my family and I can do what we do.'

Upon landing in Toronto , the pilot stopped short of the gate and made the following announcement over the intercom.

'Ladies and gentlemen, I would like to note that we have had the honor of having Sergeant Steeley of the Canadian Armed Forces join us on this flight. He is escorting a fallen comrade back home to his family. I ask that you please remain in your seats when we open the forward door to allow Sergeant Steeley to deplane and receive his fellow soldier. We will then turn off the seat belt sign.'

Without a sound, all went as requested. I noticed the sergeant saluting the casket as it was brought off the plane, and his action made me realize that I am proud to be a Canadian.

So here's a public Thank You to our military Men and Women for what you do so we can live the way we do.

Red Fridays.

Very soon, you will see a great many people wearing Red every Friday. The reason? Canadians who support our troops used to be called the 'silent majority.' We are no longer silent, and are voicing our love for God, country and home in record breaking numbers. We are not organized, boisterous or overbearing.

Many Canadians, like you, me and all our friends, simply want to recognize that the vast majority of Canadians supports our troops. Our idea of showing solidarity and support for our troops with dignity and respect starts this Friday and continues each and every Friday until the troops all come home, sending a deafening message that every red-blooded Canadian who supports our men and women afar, will wear something red.

By word of mouth, press, TV -- let's make Canada on every Friday a sea of red much like a homecoming Hockey game in the bleachers. If every one of us who loves this country will share this with acquaintances, co-workers, friends, and family, it will not be long before the Canada is covered in RED and it will let our troops know the once 'silent' majority is on their side more than ever, certainly more than the media lets on.

The first thing a soldier says when asked 'What can we do to make things better for you?' is 'We need your support and your prayers.' Let's get the word out and lead with class and dignity, by example, and wear something red every Friday.

IF YOU AGREE -- THEN SEND THIS ON.
IF YOU COULDN'T CARE LESS -- THEN HIT THE DELETE BUTTON

IT IS WITH EXTREME PRIDE THAT I WEAR A RED SHIRT EVERY FRIDAY AND HONOUR THESE FALLEN BRAVE.....lest we forget..... :(

LET'S MAKE IT NORTH AMERICAN WIDE......EVERY FRIDAY.....THE LEAST WE CAN DO....

I am here, wishing you and your wife the best. I just struggle sometimes to find the right words to say it.

JP IMO those are the right words

I my times of stuggle you never fail to be there and the words you gave were the right words.

Chick great to hear from you.

Sorry to hear about the trip to the VA but glad to hear he's OK.

Doug,

The song is called 'The 8th of November' by a band called Big & Rich.

Most of their stuff is off-beat and light hearted.

That song is a kick in the teeth.

JP....if you can find a way to send it to me....I'd really appreciate it....

Potassium is very important. Without enough, the heart won't beat. With too much, it stops beating.

A banana now and then is just enough.

and this:

'Cause I almost made the NHL .... long time ago.....:eek2:

You must have been a bruiser, eh? My dad never let me put on hockey skates. Something about having teeth...it didn't make sense to me when I was seven.

I liked your story. Here's another one. It is not mentioned on snopes.

The airline captain writes:

My lead flight attendant came to me and said, "We have an H.R. on this flight." (H.R. stands for human remains.)

"Are they military?" I asked.

“Yes,” she said.

“Is there an escort?” I asked.

“Yes, I already assigned him a seat.”

'Would you please tell him to come to the flight deck. You can board him early," I said.

A short while later, a young army sergeant entered the flight deck. He was the image of the perfectly dressed soldier. He introduced himself and I asked him about his soldier. The escorts of these fallen soldiers talk about them as if they are still alive and still with us.

“My soldier is on his way back to Virginia,” he said. He proceeded to answer my questions, but offered no words on his own.

I asked him if there was anything I could do for him and he said no. I told him that he had the toughest job in the military and that I appreciated the work that he does for the families of our fallen soldiers. The first officer and I got up out of our seats to shake his hand. He left the flight deck to find his seat.

We completed our preflight checks, pushed back and performed an uneventful departure. About 30 minutes into our flight I received a call from the lead flight attendant in the cabin. “I just found out the family of the soldier we are carrying is on board,” he said. He then proceeded to tell me that the father, mother, wife and 2-year-old daughter were escorting their son, husband, and father home.

The family was upset because they were unable to see the container that the soldier was in before we left. We were on our way to a major hub at which the family was going to wait four hours for the connecting flight home to Virginia .

The father of the soldier told the flight attendant that knowing his son was below him in the cargo compartment and being unable to see him was too much for him and the family to bear. He had asked the flight attendant if there was anything that could be done to allow them to see him upon our arrival. The family wanted to be outside by the cargo door to watch the soldier being taken off the airplane. I could hear the desperation in the flight attendants voice when he asked me if there was anything I could do. 'I'm on it', I said. I told him that I would get back to him.

Airborne communication with my company normally occurs in the form of e - mail like messages. I decided to bypass this system and contact my flight dispatcher directly on a secondary radio. There is a radio operator in the operations control center who connects you to the telephone of the dispatcher. I was in direct contact with the dispatcher. I explained the situation I had on board with the family and what it was the family wanted. He said he understood and that he would get back to me.

Two hours went by and I had not heard from the dispatcher. We were going to get busy soon and I needed to know what to tell the family. I sent a text message asking for an update. I saved the return message from the dispatcher and this following is the text:

“Captain, sorry it has taken so long to get back to you. There is policy on this now and I had to check on a few things. Upon your arrival a dedicated escort team will meet the aircraft. The team will escort the family to the ramp and plane side. A van will be used to load the remains with a secondary van for the family. The family will be taken to their departure area and escorted into the terminal where the remains can be seen on the ramp. It is a private area for the family only. When the connecting aircraft arrives, the family will be escorted onto the ramp and plane side to watch the remains being loaded for the final leg home. Captain, most of us here in flight control are veterans. Please pass our condolences on to the family. Thanks.”

I sent a message back telling flight control thanks for a good job. I printed out the message and gave it to the lead flight attendant to pass on to the father. The lead flight attendant was very thankful and told me, “You have no idea how much this will mean to them.”

Things started getting busy for the descent, approach and landing. After landing, we cleared the runway and taxied to the ramp area. The ramp is huge with 15 gates on either side of the alleyway. It is always a busy area with aircraft maneuvering every which way to enter and exit. When we entered the ramp and checked in with the ramp controller, we were told that all traffic was being held for us.

“There is a team in place to meet the aircraft”, we were told. It looked like it was all coming together. Then I realized that once we turned the seat belt sign off, everyone would stand up at once and delay the family from getting off the airplane. As we approached our gate, I asked the copilot to tell the ramp controller we were going to stop short of the gate to make an announcement to the passengers. He did that and the ramp controller said, “Take your time.”

I stopped the aircraft and set the parking brake. I pushed the public address button and said, “Ladies and gentleman, this is your Captain speaking. I have stopped short of our gate to make a special announcement. We have a passenger on board who deserves our honor and respect. His Name is Private XXXXXX, a soldier who recently lost his life. Private XXXXXX is under your feet in the cargo hold. Escorting him today is Army Sergeant XXXXXXX. Also, on board are his father, mother, wife, and daughter. Your entire flight crew is asking for all passengers to remain in their seats to allow the family to exit the aircraft first. Thank you.”

We continued the turn to the gate, came to a stop and started our shutdown procedures. A couple of minutes later I opened the cockpit door. I found the two forward flight attendants crying, something you just do not see. I was told that after we came to a stop, every passenger on the aircraft stayed in their seats, waiting for the family to exit the aircraft.

When the family got up and gathered their things, a passenger slowly started to clap his hands. Moments later more passengers joined in and soon the entire aircraft was clapping. Words of 'God Bless You', I'm sorry, thank you, be proud, and other kind words were uttered to the family as they made their way down the aisle and out of the airplane. They were escorted down to the ramp to finally be with their loved one.

Many of the passengers disembarking thanked me for the announcement I had made. They were just words, I told them, I could say them over and over again, but nothing I say will bring back that brave soldier.

I respectfully ask that all of you reflect on this event and the sacrifices that millions of our men and women have made to ensure our freedom and safety in these United States of AMERICA.

Many other nations, such as Canada, have joined us in the defense of freedom against terror, and it is likely that these are not isolated examples of such support by the public.

Hello to everyone. Hope y'all had a decent day.
It was a beautiful day in Chicago to say final good byes to Sarge.
Nice service at the church, capped off by the organist playing 'Off We Go, Into the Wild Blue Yonder'. Brought smiles and tears to all as we were leaving. The ceremonies were then taken over by a United States Air Force honor guard. All young men, determined and exacting in their procedures. I was told that each manipulation and then each fold of our Flag had special meanings. (mebbe someone can shed some lite on this). 3 volleys were shot, M-14's, And then Taps was played on a bugle live. The flag was presented to the 3 offspring of Sarge, and the offering of the spent casings of the last volley. There was not a dry eye in the gathering. A beautiful ceremony.
The honor guard disappeared before I - or anyone , could shake hands and express our gratitudes.
It was as memorable and moving as Uncle Johnny's service, who was Sarge's brother, who also was a Master Sarge, USAF, ret., except his services were at the cemetary, and 'Taps' wasn't live, it was a cd, that the soundtrack got 'stuck'.

Bob,
here are the meanings, ofcourse they are religious!!!!!1

frank

The flag folding ceremony represents the same religious principles on which our country was originally founded. The portion of the flag denoting honor is the canton of blue containing the stars representing the states our veterans served in uniform. The canton field of blue dresses from left to right and is inverted when draped as a pall on a casket of a veteran who has served our country in uniform.

In the Armed Forces of the United States, at the ceremony of retreat the flag is lowered, folded in a triangle fold and kept under watch throughout the night as a tribute to our nation's honored dead. The next morning it is brought out and, at the ceremony of reveille, run aloft as a symbol of our belief in the resurrection of the body.

(Wait for the Honor Guard or Flag Detail to unravel and fold the flag into a quarter fold--resume reading when Honor Guard is standing ready.)

The first fold of our flag is a symbol of life.

The second fold is a symbol of our belief in the eternal life.

The third fold is made in honor and remembrance of the veteran departing our ranks who gave a portion of life for the defense of our country to attain a peace throughout the world.

The fourth fold represents our weaker nature, for as American citizens trusting in God, it is to Him we turn in times of peace as well as in times of war for His divine guidance.

The fifth fold is a tribute to our country, for in the words of Stephen Decatur, "Our country, in dealing with other countries, may she always be right; but it is still our country, right or wrong."

The sixth fold is for where our hearts lie. It is with our heart that we pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands, one nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.

The seventh fold is a tribute to our Armed Forces, for it is through the Armed Forces that we protect our country and our flag against all her enemies, whether they be found within or without the boundaries of our republic.

The eighth fold is a tribute to the one who entered in to the valley of the shadow of death, that we might see the light of day, and to honor mother, for whom it flies on mother's day.

The ninth fold is a tribute to womanhood; for it has been through their faith, love, loyalty and devotion that the character of the men and women who have made this country great have been molded.

The tenth fold is a tribute to father, for he, too, has given his sons and daughters for the defense of our country since they were first born.

The eleventh fold, in the eyes of a Hebrew citizen, represents the lower portion of the seal of King David and King Solomon, and glorifies, in their eyes, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.

The twelfth fold, in the eyes of a Christian citizen, represents an emblem of eternity and glorifies, in their eyes, God the Father, the Son, and Holy Ghost.

When the flag is completely folded, the stars are uppermost, reminding us of our national motto, "In God we Trust."

(Wait for the Honor Guard or Flag Detail to inspect the flag--after the inspection, resume reading.)

After the flag is completely folded and tucked in, it takes on the appearance of a cocked hat, ever reminding us of the soldiers who served under General George Washington and the sailors and marines who served under Captain John Paul Jones who were followed by their comrades and shipmates in the Armed Forces of the United States, preserving for us the rights, privileges, and freedoms we enjoy today.

Doug that isn't nice. It's not their fault it's not in their genetics! Haha :D

Hope it's going well for everyone. Last few tests have been in the 80's. Did a fall arrest course last Tuesday and passed.

I also used a couple sick days to come back up home and look for a placement and possibly a job after graduation. I've got the practicum lined up with a guy who does a lot of Daikin installs. Think it might be a plan to go on Daikins website and do some research.

Keep your stick on the ice!
