Hi everyone. Im a student working towards a degree related to the hvac-r field and i have a question some one may help me with. I ran across a deal on a stinger 2000 recovery unit on ebay (not sure thats a good idea) and i purchased it and got it today. My question is, i wanted to do a quick check on it to see if it works so i plugged it up to see what happens, well it fires up, compressors and fans run. Shouldnt there be suction at the inlet and some sorta pressure noticable by a finger tip at the outlet with the valves open, i feel nothing. I do notice the hi side guage is sprung, reading highest reading on guage. Thanks, WES

I would recommend testing it by actually hooking it up to a system and pulling the charge properly with it. jmho

Yes, if you have the inlet valve opened, the outlet valve opened, and the purge valve set to recover it should pull a vacuum against your finger.
We have 4 of these machines and all have worked fine, we did have to replace a bearing in one but it was a standard size and we were able to buy it at a local auto parts store.

Hi beachtech, im hvacstudentdccc and i posted a thread concerning a stinger model 2000 the other day, i appreciate the responce. I wanted to ask you a question about where tou had to change a bearing in one of yours, question is what was the symptom of your unit that led you to change the bearing. I have looked mine over and its not atempying to pull any kind of vacuum, i even opened the unit up and disconnected the two flare fittings and fired it up for a moment and detected no suction at all there, i think maybe my problem is also a bearing or coupling between motor and pump, motor and fans run. thanks

take it to your school and see if your profs will let you play with it on a real live system, i did not have good luck with Ebay, buy new and move on, yes I know it is a big investment at first.
