What method are you guys using to determine the capacity of your recovery cylinders?

I have always used the stamped gross weight on the tank. Is that wrong?

yep lol. thats part of it but theres a way of determining what percentage of the cylinder is fluid at certain temps etc so you dont go beyond 80% liquid in the thing.

ive attached two pdf charts that i dug up from last year. theyre both different and i think one is out dated or something.

I have always used the WC * .8 + TW = total weight when 80%.

hey profiler, why you doing installation NATE's????

if you do the service NATE's they'll give you the installation credits ;) ;)

If its r22 that's what I do, if its 410 I believe its 2/3's the wc weight. But I can be wrong on that I just remember 2/3 is the fill on a new tank. I'm sure someone will correct me if thats wrong.

Not sure where I found this formula but here it is.

To convert to refrigerant capacity:
Maximum allowable gross cylinder fill weight is 0.8 x water capacity x specific gravity of
the refrigerant recovered @ 77°F/25°C + the cylinder tare weight.

You silly geese...ive only taken 2 exams plus core. What makes you think im actually taking the installation exams? I took the gas heat service and heat pump service. 21 certs total i believe including cores and ive knocked out 8 of em. I put service/ installation on my thingy cause ive got boph.
