hey - I walked into an old carrier 16 ton split system and you know your in trouble when there are jumpers (alligator type) that aree a perminent part of the wiring---the tech who did it even wrote into the wiring diagram--all this for not changing some bad parts. (hp,lp,clo etc.)

I recognise the unit. It is an old Lennox 2-speed heat pump. In fairness, these had quite a few wire nuts and a messy wiring harnes from the factory. Also, they used those maddening plug-in ice-cube relays. So what some folks did was to chop up the wiring harness and adapt the more standard essex type. The wiring harness on these was a mess to start with, when you retro-engineer it, well you see the results. I understand the frustration of working on something which nearly every part is truly OEM. The oddball mechanical timer, contactors, etc. make working on these a true joy. Honestly, I don't think that many mechanics are up to working on these. Glad they finally found someone to help them out!
