View Full Version : Hussmann Kool Gas
Phase Loss

Was at one of my kool gas defrost stores and saw this set up. I assume this is the differential set up created in the liquid line at the outlet of the receiver. When Kool gas defrost is called for, the solenoid valve in the liquid line de-energizes and the liquid is forced to go bypass the solenoid through that (other valve)...i dont know the name of it, anyone know the name? Has anyone every seen this set up? ive only seen the discharge or liquid defrost regulators have a stem that allows you to...regulate! this appears to be a fixed valve.

I've never seen that EXACT setup, but similar ones. You are right. Solenoid shuts off and gas goes through a fixed differential check.

I've still got some old school hot gas defrost racks setup that way.the other valve is your defrost regulator with a pre set diff.

looks like the older Kool gas setup, I like the newer ones with the Sporlan OLDR diff solenoid better, they're adjustable,, ive yewt to figure out if the older set up is adjustable at all but i don't think so. i deal with these daily, todays model was circa 1973!! haha

The first picture is an Alco (Flow Control) liquid differential valve, the second is a "hot gas boost" for the kool gas defrost. I think this was to give the kool gas a "boost" if there wasn't enough pressure in the receiver for defrost. The third is a "kool gas bleed solenoid" around the main kool gas solenoid coming out of the receiver. I beleive this was to let pressure into the kool gas header so when the main solenoid was energized it wouldn't slam it with that much pressure. We used to build these all the time for Safeway/Vons at Hussmann and by the looks on the pictures it looks like this is one of that we built here in Chino.

these pictures are not from the original post. i removed the original pictures and these pictures are new pictures for a new thread "Kool gas on steroids"
i got the information from this thread already. the pictures were of a fixed differential check valve.
