I'm looking for a light, comfortable, durable impactor for HVAC service and instalation work. It needs to handle cold midwest winters too. I'm considering the Milwaukee 2401-22 12v and the Makita TD090DW 10.8v. Given a choice of these two, which would you pick and why? Thanks.

I have the makita 10.8v and its pretty nice and its very light. The milwaukee is 12v and felt a bit heavier which is why i went with the makita. However now milwaukee has a whole bunch of 12v tools in that line and im kinda jealous. I want that little sawzall thing. Hopefully makita will expand theirs, i see they added an led light and new drill w/ a regular chuck which is nice.

Makita all the way. Actually I'd put them in a tie or a bit better than DeWalt.
I'm not a huge fan of Milwaukee cordless stuff. I had a couple kits of that at a previous company and the batteries didn't like the cold, and they didn't seem to have the power of the yellow tools

Cordless tools I own:
1-Dewalt 18v nicad 6 tool kit (hammer drill, reciprocating saw, angle grinder, flashlight, skillsaw, jigsaw)
1 Dewalt 18v nicad flourescent "droplight"
4-Dewalt 18v nicad hammer drills
3-Dewalt 18v nicad reciprocating saws
2-Dewalt 18v nicad 2 tool kit (hammer drill & reciprocating saw)
1-Milwaukee 18v nicad 4 tool kit(skilsaw, hammer drill, flashlight, sawzall)
1-Milwaukee 18v lithium ion impactor
1-Milwaukee 12v lithium ion impactor
1-Milwaukee 12v lithium ion inspection camera
1-Milwaukee 12v lithium ion mini-sawzall
1-Milwaukee 12v lithium ion drill/driver
1-Milwaukee 12v lithium ion tubing cutter
2-Milwaukee 12v lithium ion flashlights
2-Makita 18v lithium ion 4 tool kit
3-Makita 18v cordless drills
4-Makita 10v lithium ion impactors
2-Ridgid 18v nicad hammer drills
I have to say after using all of these tools personally I have a pretty well formed opinion on what I like and dislike.
1st place:
Makita Lithium ion is the best I have ever used, period.
I like: lightweght, powerful, well designed and tuff. The ergonomics are the best in the class, light on the drills. Batteries charge in 15 minutes
I dislike: nothing
2nd Place:
Milwaukee 12v lithium ion (not 18v)
I like: ultra-lightweight, compact, flashlight has a magnet so it sticks to the unit while you work on it!
I dislike: drill/driver rpm to low, tubing cutter kind of gimmicky, batteries wear down too quickly especially in cold weather
3rd place:
Dewalt 18v nicad
I like: Batteries has long run time, rugged, great ergonomics
I dislike: Batteries are HEAVY compared to lithium ion, long charge time, batteries develop "memory"
4th Place:
Milwaukee 18v nicad
I like: skillsaw is excellent, batteries last pretty well
I dislike: ergonomics are goofy, tools feel awkward and cheap, looong battery charge time, Hard plastic case doesn't fit on any shelf, sawzall cycles too slow
5th Place:
Ridgid 18v nicad
I like: price, warranty
I dislike: cheapest feel of the bunch, HEAVY, feels bulky, loooong battery charge time, short battery run time, ergonomics are the worst in its class.
I would like to try the new Dewalt lithium ion batteries but I just can't justify their rediculous price of $149.00 per battery. I can get a two pack of 18v Makita lithium ion for $99.00.
Hope this info helps!

& the bat. still has enough power to do it again. best 100 ive spent
in a long time

My local HD has the Makita 10.8v impactor for $149, or a kit that includes both the 10.8v impactor and the 10.8v driver for $129. Yeah, I know, this doesn't make sense. You'd think the kit would be higher. Anyway, I was wondering if the 10.8 Makita driver is any good? I have a Bosch 10.8 v driver already that I'm pleased with EXCEPT in cold weather.

I really disagree with Rigid being second best.
I use all their plumbing tools, threaders, and wet/dry vacs but wouldn't even waste my spit on their power tools.
