not sure if i am doing this right, am wondering if anyone has information on converting a standard blower to variable speed i hear there are kits available to do this, wondering where to get info and costs. any help would be greatly appreciated

Never heard of this, however if it could be done by the time you bought all the parts you could buy a new furnace.

There is a kit available, although it is not a true variable blower motor. One company is called Fan Handler. It uses a temperature sensor that controls a solid state board that acts like a dimmer switch to control the blower speed. It will slowly ramp up the motor, and does have a low continuous speed setting. Some multi-speed motors won't do this very well, and may need to be replaced with a better quality motor.
