What do you get when you combine a Manitowoc Model Q1400C series (CVD remote condensing unit) with an evaporator that is physically causing ice to hang up, a cool vapor valve sticking, a circuit board that does what it wants to, and a Headmaster valve that is not fully bypassing in harvest? Junk! Time for a new one.

Never have I seen so many problems with an ice machine at once.....anyone else?

To quote the foreign restaurant owner

"I just wan u fix it cheap"

or in other words
Put on your wizard's cap and figure out which of the half dozen things wrong was the last straw and made it stop working this morning. Fix that for me cheap, then I want you to warranty that nothing else will ever break on it for ohh.... maybe 3-4 yrs.

Ditto! Mani's quiet cube machines in my little world have been having serious harvest issues. Most have been bad headmasters, but on 6 month to 2 year old units this seems a little ridiculous. JMHO.

I was on another call at a McDonald's where one tech condemned a compressor (bad valves) and found the headmaster bad as well......oh and by the way, same store, and another of our techs found the other ice machine with a bad compressor (bad valves again)........

These machines (Manitowoc IB model tied to a CVD condensing unit) are just over a year old!

And believe me, nothing was misdiagnosed. Maybe I should start believing the comments about how good Hoshizakis are??????

Ditto.

I really don't do that much with ice makers because my major customer doesn't use them much anymore.

However, I have done work on a pretty wide array of ice makers and believe that Hoshi is one of the best.

Oh believe me Hoshi has problems as well. It is difficult to troubleshoot anything that is put into an area were it is not servicable. Rest. employees are not the most eductated people and think it is like changing a breaker in an electrical panel- 15 minutes and out of the way.

Have a customer who bought a new Hoshi this year. It did not work after one week, then had technicians in 4 separate times in the first month.

He bought a new machine after owning a Manitowoc for 15 years. Yes he had to have it repaired many times but that was because he would not put a filter system on the ice machine, even after I gave him a used 2 filter head system. Now he has this new Hoshi with city water and construction on the water lines in his area all the time (old road side pipes). Some customers never learn.

Glad I didn't sell him his new machine.

It all depends on what majority of brand you have in your area, They all heve issues and non are perfect. I have plenty of expierence working on all the manufacturers units and there IS no perfect way to make ice!

Except maybe those old units that were adjusted with pocket change ;)
