NEW???
Thats right, ordered a new compressor for a Wasserstrom freezer. New compressor came in today directly from Copeland. Date code of 03 on it with a man. date of 9/19/03....!!!!!?????
How the bloody hell can you have a new compressor sittin on the shelf for 5+ years is beyond me. This is truely a first. I never thought I would receive a 6yr old brand new compressor.....
Well, tomorrow is the big day. We're gonna find out if these compressors really have a shelf life....if it cranks, then we may be good....but if not.....Im gonna have to order another new one and hope its actually new.

A new, in-the-box, Copeland?
It will crank. They are sealed nicely and pressurized with nitrogen.
Maybe it's an oddball model.

I've had several that were older than the compressors they were replacing.
The best one was a "FREE" Copeland XLT R12 K-Body that I got from the supply house because they were writing it off. It 7 years old, but still brand new.
I sold it a couple of years later...at a slight discount due to no manufacturer's warranty. ;)

Yes...new in the box.
It is an oddball model, no doubt.
Even the box looked old. When I saw the 03 date code on the box, I had to open it to see it to believe it.

Yes, ordered.
Mainly because when I cross referenced the information in the current unit....nothing matched.
According to unit nameplate, its a 404A unit. Should have a Copeland compressor.
According to compressor....its a Tecumseh R-134A medium temp compressor....pushing 404. Got to love it when ya follow hacks.
So we ordered one...only took a day to get here. Wasn't priority so it could wait a few days.

A couple years ago I installed a 'new' 9RS with an 80's date. Was still pressurized when I cracked it open.

I've seen Tecumseh cover the original date code of some of their compressors with one of an older date, perhaps so called "warranty returns" that ended up being ok?
