These unions need to be broken...

What is your opinion of what the consequences of letting GM and Chrysler go bankfupt would be??

If that's what it takes, let 'em fail. Someone else will buy the company as soon as union contracts are broken, and the companies will rebuild stronger than ever. Probably Toyota.

Were there ever concessions from the unions in the bailout deal? It fell off the news radar after the bailout was approved, it seemed. I did remember hearing something about the union then changing what they were willing to do.

A lady I know that works at G.M. in Wentzville, MO just went back to work yesterday. She said they were forced to take a cut in pay.

I really wish the word "unions" would not be used in generalization.

"Trade unions"..such as the UA and others do exactly what the union was meant to do. Pay "top notch" tradesmen "top notch" pay and benefits. They dont have crap like the "jobs bank" where workers just show up and read Playboy for 8 hrs. at full pay and bennies. If you are a slacker..they can and will run you off of the job!

Labor unions, i.e. UAW, Teamsters, Steelworkers, and such..are the armpits of the labor force! It their corrupt and strongarm tactics that ultimately cause the work force to suffer. I grew up in the Pittsbugh area in the era of steel mill closings. What caused this you ask? Labor unions!! They weren't happy with $18/hr..they demanded 25! They wern't happy with 5 weeks paid vacation/yr..they demanded 13 wks. /yr! Well, I hete to tell these Mafia Labor unions...Co's start out with the intention of making money. When these "leeches" start their strongarm BS...the mills just decided to close! It's that simple!

Not all unions are bad. Trade unions make sure that good skilled workers get a living wage and benefits for that skilled work. Labor unions are just out to get what they can get by whatever Mafia means neccessary!

Exactly. And it's not the current workers that are killing the auto makers, it's the retirees that are gettign those huge pensions and all their health care paid for. That's what needs restucturing. Current auto workers don't make that much in reality.

Mrs.Reb the Detroit News.com has all the shimmy scoop in the Auto section.

There was a poll taken by CBS and posted in the NY Times a side bar poll taken on how the new president would do bla bla bla.

Any how about half way through on a PDF format a question was asked if there should be any more bailouts. 71% said no.

I'm sure it will be a hot news item by the first ten days next month.

The CAW up here is being asked to take a wage cut prior to a bail out from the tax payers. They refused. Their compensation including salary, benefits, pension, etc, amounts to $65/hr.

To be fair, the Japanese auto makers don't have the legacy costs the Big Three endure.

Let me do some explaining to yall about Detroit politics from a local view...

First off it started way back when after the Detroit city riots his honor Coleman A. Young said to white folks with money without saying it GET OUT.

Dennis Archer was a good joe but would'nt go along with the "crowd".

People of Detroit are taxed out of their minds.

The FBI is investigating certain members of the Detroit ciy council.
KK is in jail and he won't be able to practice law after he gets out.

The State of Michigan had to step in to take over the finances of the Detroit Public Schools.

That same sense and chain of thought that goes along Detoit and good old Ron Boggerfingers that the UAW can do no wrong, we won't admit to any mistakes were not going to give in even til the end has placed the in the very situation they are today.

Lets just print more money and hand it over to the UAW. Tax our paychecks and give that money to the fat cat GM execs and other fine members of the communist.....er...I mean Democratic Party.
Change you can believe in.
