Hi everyone, I've been thinking about buying myself a pair of digital gauges, but don't know which ones to buy, I 've been keeping an eye on the yellow jackets, testo's and digi cools. Which ones do you guys prefer?

Do yourself a big favour and buy from DigiCool. DO NOT buy from Yellow Jacket even though they are the same. Ritchie has done something that they are going to regret big time. Testo sucks.

I would not buy digital gauges unless you are verry carefull with them I would break them in a week. I dont have the time to put them away and then take them out for every service call I just hang my gauges on my cage in the truck digitals will get beat

The digi cools are pretty tough. I have digi cools, testo and the yellow jacket guages. Id buy the digi cools again in a heart beat but I have a set of testo's for sale :)

It seems you have no experience of the Digi-cool product. Mine have been hanging in the back since I got them. I have never teated them any different to my mechanical manifold sets that now reside in the workshop!!!!!!

The one thing I did do was put a screen protector over the LCD, no big deal just common sense to keep them looking good for longer.

You can drive a truck over the Digi cools....

No worries about breaking the Cools....they are the only thing I use!! Hangin in my truck now....oh and it was like -17 here this weekend....:D

If you broke the Digi-cool it would be because you took a sledge hammer to them.

i've been using my digi-cools for almost a year now and haven't had one minutes trouble with them.

they have been through wos thing's than my analog gauges could ever think of doing!

i hang my digi-cools up in the truck just like any other set of gauges i have. they are sitting on the truck and have been since friday night, it was 17°F saturday morning and i can rest assure they will work just fine tomorrow morning when i need to use them. they have been wet, dropped, thrown in a fit of rage (lmao like you've never been P.O'ed before) and they don't stop working, and are still more accurate then my best kept set of analog's :)

plus, i don't have to carry a PT chart anymore :p

mine are the Y/J set :) they are the same as the digi 1200 series. the must be something i dunno about, doug and Y/J having a fallen out or something  either way, for the price, it's a great set up. four port manifold, hoses, and the 1200. and i bought mine on sale last year for 649 plus uncle sam :) i am waiting for them to go on sale agian this spring :D

if i had to do it all over again, i would buy the digi-cools or Y/J's :)

you have certainly picked the best three to own.

be sure to stay away form the others you may see or run across. price is attractive, but they will most certainly cost you more in the end! i promise you that, as a friend of mine here went against my info about gauges and has to take his much cheaper set back to the guy who sold them to him three times in the last four months :o

Good. FWIW, none of us is getting compensation for these kind words in favor of the Digi-cools. They simply are that friggin good. Best gauges ever! Wish I'd have found out about them a long time ago. As far as I know I'm still the only one in my area that owns a set. That's mostly due to nobody being exposed to them. The supply houses sell Mastercools and Refcos, which are both junk. Sad, very sad.

What kind of anolog set do you have that is tougher than a good set of digitals

I'd like to try them but I wouldn't want to waist anymore money on a Analog Set and break them in a week

The guys that are using the Digi-cools do you have 2 sets one for R22 and one for R410A or do you just use the 1 set for everything and what do you do after each call if using different refrigerant.

I bought two to have them seperate. I just don't want any excuses that thier was contamination between the two.

Same manifolds for everything, oil retention in the manifold itself would be zilch.

I use the same set for everything. Just a quick nitrogen purge between refers. I keep my nitrogen tank easily accessible on the back of my truck. Don't even have to pull it out to purge....takes about a minute...:D

I bought the refco digimons, before reading the horror stories on here, mine still work, but guarantee they will not take much abuse, they don't look too tough. I did wreck the sensor right away, but the gauges still function.(Well at least they did in the fall, will see this spring):D

I did, I see a few more buttons on the 1250, a different color case, and different type of screen, other than that saw nothing in the description that seems much different to me.

Looked again, I see the deciding factor for me(dual temp sensors on the 1250)

What else is different that i am missing?

over the 1600

watch some of the videos :)

the 1250's have a backlight as well and i think it's four different colors to choose from. the 1250's have the dual temp SH/SC as you were saying, Adjustable digital readout update rate: 1 second, 5 second or hold digits, Includes profiles for 30 common refrigerants (the 1600 does 23 refer's)

i think that's it :)

well I use 2 refrigerants, but the dual temp is the only way I would have it, so I guess I have a few hundred more to save up, cause I gotta have those spring clamps too:D

Ok.

This whole Digi-cool thing is really getting my attention.

Questions,

In the "hammer test" vid, is that just a case or are all of the electronics inside?

Who has the oldest set of digi-cools? 2,3,4 years? What kind of lifespan?

The price seems a bit steep, but I'm a sucker for a gadget.

only two refer's right now!

don't you do alot of commercial stuff? those R-22 units, as they break and the price of 22 skyrockets, you'll be using a third refer ;)

all i can say is mine are almost a year old, no problems thus far.

i don't see why they won't last longer than any set of analog gauges :)

i could see where they would last me much longer than 5 years :)

Used what was probably the digi cool proto type when I worked for Doug briefly in 02, very impressive, and I'm sure they are even better now.

But I got a set of yellow jackets as a gift, they were promptly stolen after 1 use. Boss replaced them and I have loved them ever since with no problems in 2 years. I would buy a new set in a heart beat. I treat them like everything else, into the back of the van. I just purge the line with each new gas. I don't buy into the cross contamination theory (Lee Harvey worked alone).

I don't think you can lose with either brand. Jump into the future, don't wait for it to leave you behind. Digital is here to stay (unlike r22).
