I was working on a small walk-in cooler and I have a bad valve. Is there any reason I can't install a fan cycling control instead of changing out the valve?
Thanks

fan cycling control will work, but never as well as the headmaster. The head master will keep the head pressure constant. with the fan cycling control the head pressure will be all over the place during cold weather and on a windy day you may lose capacity or cycle on low pressure because of insufficient high side pressure.

When you say “Bad Valve or Head Pressure Regulating Valve” I hope you’re saying “Head Master Valve”. If so what’s wrong with the valve and how did you decide it was bad?
If in fact the valve in question is bad and not maintaining the proper head pressure I would install an ICM or P-66 fan cycle controller until the valve can be replaced.
Do Not Try and control the head pressure with a working head master and fan cycle (on / off or variable speed) at the same time.

Yes it was a head master. my head pressuer was 100psi on a 409a freon. The discharge line was warm but the others were cold , i shut the fan off and the line leaving the condenser started getting warmer and head pressure came up. I installed the fan cycing control till i can get the headmaster
