Thats it for now.
The company I work for is doing the HVAC, Process piping, Plumbing, and Fire Protection on this job. Lots to take pictures of.
Check for updates again soon.

You just don't see very many pictures of the big jobs on here. I just figure some people might like it because they never get to experience jobs of that size.

Nice spiral. Reminds me of the good old days at Johnson and Johnson in Racine, Abbott Labs and UL in N Chicago, Searle Pharma, Great Lakes NTC expansion all many moons ago
Alot of money in those little pills:rolleyes:

Thanks for the pictures Lash. Keep em coming! I love to see pictures of the larger industrial jobs.

On the HVAC side.....I'd say about 60-70% of it is commercial-ish. A large part of this job is just spiral duct....and your usual TDC/ S & Drive duct. The steamfitters and plumbers have a lot of industrial work in the building.
I have never seen this much aluminum spiral in my life. I didn't realize how much of it I had to order. It's probably close to 2,000'......plus hundreds of aluminum fittings.
We have a ton of 10ga stainless oxidizer duct to run on the roof too.
Lots of neat stuff on this job.

Is that welded drainage pipe I see?
If so ,why?
Just curious because I`ve never seen that done before.

Yup....carbon welded steel. Needed to be carbon because of the possibility of extremely hot water and other liquids (chemicals) melting a PVC drain. Welded because it limits the possibility of a future leak. Hot water+ leaky fitting+ people under= ouch. All the floor drains in the production areas are welded carbon steel.
I never knew our plumbers could weld :p.
You should see all of the tig welded stainless drains that are under the ground. I was I had pictures of that.
Edit:
I forgot to add that some of the floor drains are also welded carbon steel because they are drained into a separate tank in the event that a drum of chemicals was accidentally spilled

How's the spiral duct supported?... hard to tell what the hanger is going to.
Kinda looks like you had to drill anchors to the ceiling.
Verry nice.

The building is 90% pre-cast panels and planks. Pretty much everything gets drilled and anchored to concrete.
3/8" drop-in anchors w/ 3/8" threaded rod and tear-drop hangers is what we use for any exposed spiral. Otherwise we use gripple cable and locks with tie wire anchors for any spiral/round not exposed or overly heavy.
For anything anchored to the block we use double expansion anchors.
For the MUA unit.....we ran 5/8" threaded rods all the way through the pre-cast plank and topped them off with large washers and 5/8" nuts before they poured the concrete cap on the floor above. I just don't like relying on anchors (especially larger size drop-ins) in pre-cast to hold up anything heavy. A butterfly anchor would have worked....but I have more peace of mind this way.

Beautiful work. That McQuay air handler looks like it's floating in mid-air.
Oh, I think I did see one little piece of spiral that was crooked, though... :D
I think I caught a glimpse of a McQuay cent in the picture with the boiler...

Is it in the 4th pic of the second set? I thought that too so I went and looked at it. It's straight. Must be some weird effect from the flash off the aluminum.

spiral makes me drool...although i am no longer on the sheet metal side of things i love the clean look of it. i also love it when the building architects think of service when they decide where they want specific units hung. I have seen one put over a indoor pound that was leading away from a fountain.

Well....we engineered 100% of the HVAC on this project, so there should be any problems...lol.

Thanks for posting, keep it coming. Only problem is now I want to know how and what all the process piping is for, how it works, and why :D

It's a pharmaceutical lab.....the pipes will carry chemicals. That's all I can tell you. The rest is a secret. ;)

It looks like all the trades are welding. I love jobs with all welded pipe. Tig welding stainless is the best. These Pharmecuitical companies just keep on building and expanding. Keep up the good work and work safe.
