I am looking at building a small built-in wine "cellar". My intent is to do a built-in against a wall and fireplace instead of an entertainment center or bookshelves. Very small area less than 100ft^3.

I found a nice built kit for a thermister controlled off-on for any power outlet. What I want is to buy a very small chiller and use this device to control it instead of spending the money for a custom made wine chiller with controls.

The controller is called CoolMaster. Found it on EPEMag. Uses a 12V system to switch off and on the power and senses the temp inside with a thermister. See it here.

So does anyone know where I can find a simple small chiller to fijust bare bones nothing fancy! Fancy = money!

Thanks! First post!!!!

I was looking for a source for chillers - the base unit bare bones without controls....not someone to tell me how to do a DIY.

If that still breaks the rules, then thanks anyway!

sorry we all have rules we have to follow...maybe if you post more info about yourself in your profile.:D

I'm not sure what my profile has to do with my question...do I have to pass some kind of test first before someone will help?

I am an engineer, but not in the HVAC industry (oil and gas consulting). I am simply looking for some sources for a small chiller without the fancy controls or enclosures.

I appreciate you answering at all, but maybe this is not the right place or environment to find help for what I am looking for...

Have you considered other options besides a chiller? A small chiller will cost you... with or without the 'fancy' controls. You might want to look at a heat pump instead, or look to irregular refrigerators that might fit what you are looking for.
Mini-chillers have been used a lot by the Navy, on ships to cool small spaces with small equipment and save space. It costs $$$, unless you are the government.

Thanks for the reply....I am thinking of stripping down a "dorm" type fridge...I think I only need about 350 BTU/her.....anyway it is worth a shot as I am sure I can find one used for cheap cheap!

Cheers!

i will also search for "mini-chillers" and see if that gets me further than just Googling Chillers!

I am an engineer,

aren't we all lmao

would be cheaper and easier to just buy a wine cooler :)

did you build your own furnace too?

your use of the word chiller is way of topic for a wine holding box :)

well I was asked to fill out my profile so I offered some info....did yo have an engineer steal yor toys as a youth?:)

If you can find a wine cooler that can hold 200 bottles for less than $3000-$4000 then point me to it!

Besides I like the idea of doing it myself....and believe me for what I am looking for searching using the term "wine cooler" would never get me to where I am going..
