Refrigerant Recovery Machine

I am getting ready to purchase a refrigerant recovery machine. I am doing residential work on the side. I have always used the Promax style, and I recently used a Bacharach newer style unit. I have also came across the new APPION Star Performance G5 Twin Recovery machines.
I have an oppurtunity to get a decent deal on a Promax RG5410.
Is there enough difference in these machines to tell a difference, or should I just go for price? Thanks

Ive been sold on the appion. Ive used promax's, yj's and others but the appion is very powerful, very light and compact. Apparently if anything goes wrong with it, its supposed to be easily repairable in the field aswell.

The appion G5 twin is one he11 of a recovery machience. The only problem i ran into was that the cooling fan cam loose on the rear of the machiene, but it was easy to take appart and fix. Even recoved a few chillers with R-11 and R-113 in them, not supposed to but it pulled through lol.

The Appion G5 Twin is a great little machine. I bought one used on ebay, and it has surpassed my expectations. it's much lighter than the Promax machines, and recovers the gas faster, on the order of less than half the time.

I'd be interested in finding a machine like the Appion that has the capability of purging the unit for use with a different refrigerant. I used my machine for R22 exclusively, but the time will come soon that I will be working with 410A, and I'd like to have one machine that can purge, so it can handle both gases.

The purging could be of a concern. How do you get all of the refrigerant out of the unit if it doesn't purge? I was thinking it could be used on 22 and 410a, but I never thought about the purging problem.

I will answer your question even though you offered nothing to mention to the post. I work full time at a local university in the HVAC department. I do side work for word of mouth customers. Like most in the business, I would like to do my own thing one day, but side work is good for now.

To purge the Appion,you flow nitrogen thru it which will remove any residual refrigerant out of the recovery machine.

I can see how that would remove the refrigerant, but is that sufficient for the removal of the residual oil, as well?

ARe the pressure gages easy to change on this style unit?

nitrogen will take care of it just fine. any oil that doesnt get purged wont hurt anything since it would be so minute.
