Well after countless beatings about bein a UEI guy i finally broke down and got a couple fluke meters, and i must say i am changed. I took my UEI DL389back cause i had some issues with it, the guys at my local supply house let me change it out for a fluke 902, and i love it :D. The week after christmas i also purchased a fluke 52-2. It is one of the best thermocouple thermometers ive ever used, sturdy, fast and accurate.

I am a Fluke acholic. Get yourself the magnet hanging strap for the Fluke 52-2 works great and frees up your hands. I use my 52 on ever job weather it be a furnace boiler or Ac or what ever two Fluke pipe clamps also and anything else that goes along with it. Next get a Fluke 116. Here is just some of my stuff.

Here is the information on the 116 on frequency
The Meter measures the frequency of a signal by counting
the number of times the signal crosses a trigger level each
second. The trigger level is 0 V for all ranges.
1. Press key to turn the frequency measurement
function on and off. Frequency works with ac volts only.
2. In frequency, the bar graph and range annunciator
indicate the AC voltage present.
3. Select progressively lower ranges using manual ranging
for a stable reading.

deff, i dunno about the digi cools though, how do they hold up? i would think i would break them in one season lol. now i just use my fav, JB two port manifold, NRP positive shutoff hoses, and NRP glycerin fileed gauges.
dont like the four ports anymore, too heavy and dont hold up imo.

the digi's hold up better than analog gauges and best of all, i don't have to rape pillage and plunder the parts house to fund a PT chart that worth a crap :)

take my last two days of work for instance. i have worked on 5 different flavors of refer in the last 2 days. 134a, 22, 409a, 404a and 410a. works out great for me :) plan on upgrading my 1200's to 1250 status here soon and also buying another set of 1250's to add to my arsenal :)

The fluke 116 has a higher ohms range than the 902, for temp sensors and such. Also it can read frequency/Hrz, which is used for motors and VFD's in commercial. It aslo as milli volts, micro amps, and temperature. Clamp meters are nice, i have the 902, but a good quality DMM is a good thing to have.
Ill will be purchasing one in the near future, i need it for the frequency option.

piece of crap meter, fluke cannot get thier chit straight and even think about keeping up with the industry in what we, as HVAC technicians, really need!

vlots, amps, capacitance, temp, and ohms.

i can do without temp in one meter, but the damn thing better be able to read ohms!!!

all of the fluke amp clamp meters (junk) fall way way short of reading ohms as they should. i am not going to carry two meters to a job just because one of my overpriced and overrated meters cannot do one function properly!

just assume buy something that fits my needs for day to day activities, and the 902 would be nice, but ohming something out is just about a day to day thing, and i don't need to carry two pieces of crap around with me all day long. especially when brand "X" sells a meter that beats the pants off the fluke at a lower cost to me, the person footing the bill for the proper tools to get the job done!

The 330 series, stick with the 337, will read up to 30 ohms. The 355 is the big boy clamp meter for ohms and basically anything else for that matter. 400 ohms.

I would think for you guys it would be better to get a nice multimeter with temperature and ohms then add on the clamp attachment instead of trying to use a clamp meter as a multimeter.

I also posted a link to the new Extech meter in another thread that is designed with HVAC guys in mind. It has two type k thermocoupler inputs, a built in non contact voltage detector, built in IR thermometer, and is a 400amp clamp meter that reads ohms as well. Here is a link to the PDF on it.

http://www.extech.com/instruments/resources/datasheets/EX612_EX613_EX622_EX623.pdf

The Ideal 61-494 and 61-495 are really nice multimeters as well. Once again if you need it to be a clamp meter just buy the clamp attachment.

the 902 can read up to 9999ohms, plenty for the day to day use IMO, i havent needed a really high ohm range so far for what i work on, package units and such. It does everything i need it to do. I gave up a UEI that had everything for this fluke 902, and it hasent failed me yet.

the 902 can read up to 9999ohms, plenty for the day to day use IMO, i havent needed a really high ohm range so far for what i work on, package units and such. It does everything i need it to do. I gave up a UEI that had everything for this fluke 902, and it hasent failed me yet.

yeah and I actually posted the wrong ohms for those two anyway, getting late. 30 ohms for continuity. 6000 ohms for the 337 and the 355 is 400kΩ.

Resistance (Max Res.) 40.000MΩ (0.01Ω)

a good meter would read megohms :p

not stop at 35, or 9999 :p

i was lloking at the extech meter you were talking about aiken, but locals talked me out of it. now i am looking at the ideal meter with the two displays :)

Which Ideal one has two displays? Never seen one like that. Only thing I can think of is the 61-495. It is a single display but can display more than one thing in that display. Basically an analog type meter that is LCD as well as the normal LCD digital display. That one actually goes up to 2 GΩ if I remember right.

Most of the higher end Ideal meters are made by Sperry. Both are great companies

I like all my flukes meters, all seven of them.If I need to really ohm something out,I grab the meger and check it that way.I use my 902 almost on a daily basis and it has not let me down yet.I love my 52-2 and its features.I had a package unit that was tripping the rollout limit earlier this winter. While the customer and I talked,I showed him that the 350*F limit tripped out at 275*F 15 mins into a run cycle with my 52-2.

What I like about that whole series of temp meters is its size. You know they could of made that thing a heck of a lot smaller, but they didn't. Sometimes, at least to me, smaller isn't always better. Their thermal imagers are kind of that way also. Between the two big boy manufactures on those things I would rather be in a bar fight with the Ti series thermals.

What I like about the 52-2 like you said the ease of use and the size of it.Which allows the screen display very easy to read.

Oh yeah the tight site ones, I had two displays on the front in my mind when you originally posted that. Forgot about the ones that have the display in the bottom.

When those things first came out there were a ton of complaints about where the hold button was located because you would constantly hit it on accident. They had to take a lot of them back and replace them with a re-vamped version. All fixed now a days though

No temp (let alone dual type k's) or IR thermometer on the Ideal. Both kind of nice features for you guys.

Im thinkin about purchasing a fluke 116 tomorrow(sat), im just thinkin to myself if it is worth it? I now have the 902, and i also have a DMM. Its a basic one, volts ac/dc, milli volts, continuity, ohms, and amps. I dont wanna waste my money on somthin that i already have, even thought the 116 has a lot of features, i really wanna get it and i think for the price i would love to add it to my tool collection, any advice?

A tech should have a 170 series or 180 series
fluke for serious troubleshooting.
Mine are all older. 77, 79, 87, 52, and a 30 clamp type. Also 2 amp clamps for the multimeters. You need the larger ohm readings when looking for shorts to ground. Bought an Extech 2 lead thermometer to get me out of trouble when the 52 was in the shop, turned out to be an excellent thermometer, used it alot when I need lots of temp readings. I would not hesitate to recommend the extech products, although I am sold on Fluke. I have been out of the feild for a few years, thats why my meters are all older. I will be dusting them off soon however. I am going to look up the thread on digital gauges, as I can I may get a set.

in the past two weeks ive got the 52-2 and the 971. the next one on my list is the 922...ive also got a 117 and 322. i like fluke stuff.
