Quote from the committee on wanting to raise gas taxes:

"According to a draft of the financing commission's recommendations, the nation needs to move to a new system that taxes motorists according to how much they use roads. While details have not been worked out, such a system would mean equipping every car and truck with a device that uses global positioning satellites and transponders to record how many miles the vehicle has been driven, and perhaps the type of roads and time of day."

Thats newspeak for: WE ARE IN CONTROL!!! YOU ARE NOT FREE!!!

Black boxes for cars....

And, exactly how are they expecting to pay for something like that? And enforce the use? Sounds like something California would try!

Maybe they should just learn to be better stewards of the funds they already extort from the tax paying citizenry? ;)

Does this REALLY surprise anyone?

If so, then you haven't been paying attention.

I didn't realize your quote was within the article I posted this a.m.
Also, appears some places are already attempting trials at this--Oregon for one.

Is 1984 still required reading in schools?

I find it hard to believe that anybody born and raised in the USA would even think of this. Its one thing to doublespeak on the security aspects of giving up freedom for. . . security. But what is thier excuse here? We are going to give up more freedom for taxes!!!

Stalin must be laughing it up in hell right now.
