I have noticed that the common wool oil filter from General Filter, part number 2A-710SL, has different mesh ratings listed after the part number, such as 2A-710SL-100 or 2A-710SL-30 indicating a 100 or 30 Monel mesh filter, respectively. I assume the mesh value is related to the micron rating of how fine the particulates are that it will let pass, correct? And what do the pros on here commonly use in a one pipe residential install? I assume also that if it is too coarse it will let too much through but if it's too fine it will clog too often.

I don't like those filter cartridges, the white cotton like ones do a much better job. That being said, the finer micron rating the better.....a burner can't run clean if its forced to consumer dirty oil.
