ive always been a firm believer in, your tools and the way they are kept and treated are a extension of the tech/mechanic and reflects they quality of work.

i would have way more confidence in someone that has all of their tools organized and clean than someone that just dumps all of their tools in a large bag and is disorganized and spends more time looking in a bag for a tool than actually working..

but that is just me

i bought a veto when i was about midway through hvac school and i was so proud to have that thing packed with nice new clean tools. ill tell ya what, being a service guy...i never use it. i know a ton of you guys love it but ive found that regular over the shoulder craftsman pouch absolutely the best thing ever. ill have to get a pick of it later. ive got my veto pinning my recovery cylinder to a corner so it doesnt rattle around in my van.

that holder on the side fits my bosch 10.8v impactor perfectly and the thing has a fricken "kickstand" on the back so when you set it on the ground it sets at an angle sitting upright if you want it to. i love it

i did the exact opposite. That small craftsman bag held everything i needed for the residential work i went to school to learn. But today, as a matter of fact, i picked up a veto to hold the tools i have been collecting along the last year.

My favorite part of that craftsman bag was the kickstand. Pretty cool feature. The only thing i hated was that every time the van stops short, or i turn a corner, my tools are all over the floor. And rooftops, the thing fills up with snow pretty fast.

I never really have a problem with it. I actually dumped out my veto tonight and made it my meter bag. Im thinking about getting a bigger one...similar to that craftsman one, maybe a kline bag. we'll see...

I also bought a 28" long fat max box from hd and tossed all my other tools in there then ive got a couple small boxes for brazing and soldering...pretty organized

LMAO!!! nice. just installed a hard wire kit for it in my work van, with a switch on the dash to turn it on and off, bad arse:D. i love that light, i take it into every call. I couldnt find a dealer, i got it from amazon, it was the cheapest that i found. $123 for the light and the car charger. no pics but my NEW tool bag is filled with NEW tools thanks to a detroit crackhead...cost $400.00 to replace my basic set of hand tools. the good tools are in the van in a hinged box I made out of 2x10s and 3/4 plywood. too heavy for crackheads to carry away. The worst part is my tool bag was filled with mostly mismatched stuff that nobody but a scrap yard would want. Next thing is meters....using my back up ones right now (craftsmen.....yikes!!!)

Why do you have two amp prob's

fluke 322 is a fantastic meter for low voltage controls as it accuratly reads down to a tenth of an amp

however it is not a true RMS meter so its no good for VFD'S, ECM motors and other capacitive loads.

thats where another meter( true rms) comes in handy

Why do you have two amp prob's

If you are reffering to me, i do not carry both of them. The 322 is my backup meter to the 902 clamp meter. I just ordered a new DMM from fluke so the 902 might be retired to the van.

Your meter is all that seperates you from ground.
They cost more for a reason,IMHO. Lots of testing and certified at 1000 volts.

I used to save money by buyin the UEI meters. But i quickly learned you get what you pay for. After goin through two brand new DL389 clamp meters within a year, just came may 2007, i decided to go with fluke. The first uei meter, the entire screen would shut off, i would squeeze it and the screen would come back on, yea thats quality lol:rolleyes:. The second didnt always read voltage, found that out working on a 460v package unit:eek:, i decided to try another meter and was happy i did:mad:. From my experience buyin the cheaper stuff isnt always the way to go. If you have had luck with fieldpiece, by all means, keep using it. But i chose to spend the extra money and get fluke, and now that i use fluke i will never chose another brand of meter.

Hopefully it's more sturdy than their 10-1.
I've ruined a few of those by distorting the 1/4" nut driver end.
I switched to the Lennox 9-1 which I feel is superior but it's missing the torx bits. over the 11-1 Klein.

Yoy can now use the bead probe from the 902 and the 87-5,
Leave the 52-2 in the truck for special occasions
I replace the probes 2 times a year, been very accurate for me

It's actually just a modded out gt but it has a ton of steeda suspension.
It's seup for corner carving but has cut 60' times as low as 1.52.
With taller springs I'm sure I can cut 1.45 60' times.

The 3 link works better than the 4 link for drag.
I have friends running 1.37 60' times.

its a 3 link with a panhard bar and torque arm? i would figure that would bind up on a road course, the point of a pan hard bar and tq arm is to remove the upper control arm(s) .....

but the car looks slick with that steeda kit on it...just would do black rims...

what size tires are those? looks like a 15 or 16in rim.. looks like a 295/50/15?

The tires in the New England Dragway pic are M/T E.T. Street Radials 275/50 15" which are 26" tall.
In the Video I'm running a M/T E.T. Drag 28/10.5-15 which are 28" tall
The offset on the 15" rims is off which doesn't allow me to soften up the rear suspension since the 28" tires make contact with the fenders.
I'm ordering a set of Bogarts or Billet Specialties 15 x 10" soon with the proper offset.

dam, wish i knew how to post a pic

If you have a Photobucket, Picasa, Google photo account you can copy the properties of the photo and encase them with and it will display the photo.

example:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v713/mechacc/100_0328.jpg encased with the IMG brackets will result in the following photo.

Some accounts such as Photobucket will encase the url with the IMG brackets so all you have to do is copy then paste it into the message.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v713/mechacc/100_0328.jpg

When you post a reply toggle down to Additional Options and look for "Attach Files"

Click on manage attachments you can then browse photos from your computer or you can list a photo property from a URL

I do pay for my own tools but the trick is finding good deals. I have bought a ton of stuff on craigslist. Its kinda like fishing every now and again you get a unbelievable deal (big fish)

And i have three leak detectors I always like to have two and the other inficon I bought on craigslist for a 100 bucks damn near brand new it even came with an extra ir cell I also found a fluke 54-2 for 120 and it came in the box with the plastic still on it!!

Mine might not be 15 years old, but most of them say usa too, as the name implies i am a BIG klein tools fan, A LOT of my tools are klein. I am a big backer of USA tools, but its still a nice wrench and i wouldnt mind puttin it in my veto. Here are some of my tools................

My hand tools are Kliens ,Craftsman wrenches , Armstrong wrenches ,Rigid pipe wrenches and tubeing cutters, I have a pipewrench from 1967 and a pipe cutter from 1959 . flareing and swedging kit and gauges are imperial . wouldnt let the smithsonian have them . my pneumatic black box is made by Johnson Controls and unlike the one made now all the gauges say made in USA. Fluke meters . I used to invest in the Armstrong sets but the Craftmans are a lot cheaper and cant beat the warranty ,Sears just around every corner to exchange if you wreck one

Do most of you guys here have tool bags this neat and organized at the end of a hot summer days work? If so I am truly impressed and a little embarassed.
Mine have not looked that way for many many years now.
I always used an open top Tote with double draws. It was never neat but I could find anything I needed with my eyes closed.

I'd like to move to the Islands someday.
born Wailuku.
lived Kauai for a while.
lived Oahu for 14 years.
went Mainland (Alabama).
went houle.

For the last several years, I've been able to visit Hawaii several weeks at a time, several times every year. Ready to move back, but it would be very expensive to ship all my toys over.
Tons of tools, cars, motorcycles, etc. I would want several containers worth. I guess I will have to just let go of a lot of stuff to really make the move. I like Kauai the best for living, so far. Not as much money flowing there but that has not been a real priority lately.
Had to throw in that part about the tools so it would fit this thread. :D

It's a good tool for the money JWB. Great for tight spaces! You slip the tool in between a pipe and locks in, then you push a tab in to start cutting.

Smallblock was nice enough to post those pics for me because I was having a hard time doing so. I had a piece on the other side. Leaves allways blow in the garage and get underneath/along with other things when you drop tools. That's just to prohibit that from happening. I plan on redoing that with sheet metal.

So im not about to use that any more till its fixed. A new motor for it is 470.00,so that will be a while. I will prolly find a whole machine on craigslist for cheaper.

Have two pouches. One for quick work and one for testing and diagnosing and a case for the other diagnostic tools. That's three!
Can't show all the tools- don't have pics of everything- too many tools, but I have these.

Hey I'm training to be an HVACR Technician and putting together some tools. So far its pretty much 90 percent Klein. Does anyone know anything about the new Klein multimeters? Thats one of the last things I need to get and I know they just came out so I was wondering if anyone had any experience with them. I havent seen any threads about them yet. Thanks.

then ill throw my gauges and or a cordless drill in there if need be.

the bag has a ton of pockets on the outside, in which i carry a couple markers, pocket screwdrivers/core remover, all various termimal ends/wire nuts, PT chart, extra screws, and various other nicknacks.

ive got another large bag with most of my speciality hand tools, that rarely get used. i pull whatever i need out as the job sees fit and gets thrown into the daily bag.

For sure.

Funny thing, today I was at my best and fav customer's house working in almost impossible working condition in a below grade cinder block room that is five by fifteen...

Anyway her husband just passed on at the beginning of summer and someone broke into the house over the the week end and robbed the joint.

I was using her computer to check email for new calls and I happened to open up to this thread on tools and Veto Packs. My friend/customer was interested in how we carry our stuff around.

When she saw all over the thread was over packed Vetos. Shealmost shed a tear of sincere
grief for those young men who use them.

She is an awe that lighter loads are not used...inside of five years a guy will have disc problems and will probably gon on hard narcotic pain killers.

She feels you carry too much. She also stated the obvious that you don't need every tool in the Veto for every job.

And I agree. My back is a mess cause I carried a large Klein bag. Had more than enough tools and heavy...my back went out because of it and a car accident. Now I have a five gallon bucket with what I need for cleaning and general repair and aplace to sit while I work..

Because she could see I was really having trouble working in the tight spots of the Pit it was causing me severe pain. In her medical opinion I needed a good opioid pain reliever... the job got done.

But here's the news, you don't need all those tools so do your back a favor.

Tomorrow I go to the hospital because a three ton evap hit me in the head ...I lost control of my bladder and and I soiled my the seat of my underwear.
Bad neurological signs but my doc said to wait 'til morning.

Theres a lot of truth to not carrying to heavy a loads in tool pouches or bags
Even a shoulder strap won't change the issue, you just wreck more of your body.
My pouch has to be kept in the low 40's for weight. Thats pushing it.

Canada Post now for instance has a dual bag configuration over each shoulder area instead of one large bag on one shoulder as done previously for years, buddy of mine delivers mail and was telling about this awile ago.
As he put it to me the Gov't knows about the comp issues and was doing this to avoid issues.

Knees are another thing to....always use at least one knee pad if you go on one knee or two if you do double knee down

FYI it is a very important symptom of closed head injuries. If you fail to disclose it it could well mean your life.

I am not going to put my machismo ahead of my life and neither should you.

Lucky for me I was ok, just shocked my nervous system enough to make me let go. Did a CAT scan and gave me a clean bill of health.

Point taken.
Thought you meant it should not be mentioned at all.
But it was an experience that could have happened to anyone and
since the symptoms could very easily ignored if someone is not in the know,
I felt that passing that bit of advice along was appropriate. To ignore the symptom could cost you dearly.

Man, a lot of those tool bags look really heavy. When I did hardcore commercial service I carried a Leatherman on my belt, a 5/16 and 1/4 nut driver, and a klien how ever in the many in one and a meter all in my pockets. I usually carried a set of gauges up too if it wasn't a heat call. I diagnosed 90% of systems with just those tools. If any heavy lifting was required I got my helper to stop texting and haul all the heavy stuff to the unit for me. :D

Yes....I keep a pad lock and hasp on my bag. That will normally do it. If I need to lock out valves or breakers I just go back to my truck.

Most on here do resi and light commercial work. Which is rarely locked out. Most guys don't know or haven't even seen how to lock out a toggle switch.
