Got a new pair (gift) of Klein 9" linemans pliers. They say "Journeyman" on them and seem pretty heavy duty. They are just a little tough to open and close. I put some penetrating oil on them. Do you think they will break in or will they always be tight?

About half the time I use mine for a hammer dont know if you do but that will losen them up.

Every set of Kline pliers I have was like that. I just squirt a little wd40 or PB on them and work them back and forth for a few minutes; works great afterwards. I usually dont have a problem after that unless they get wet. Then I just squirt some more oil on them.

all i use is klein... and im not patient for my pliers to break in so i get a zoom spout oiler, sit there and open and close them to loosen them up. the journeyman series are awesome pliers very comfortable on the hands..
they will loosen up if you spend 10 mins doing this....
i also do this on the tools i use daily i guess once a year or so..
i dont know why but it makes me feel good lol:p

75% of my service hand tools are Klein. I spray some WD40 or put a few drops of oil on the tools, let them sit on a rag overnight, and in the morning they are looser than a 10 dollar hooker. :D

soak them in wd40, work them for a couple mins then wipe off the excess..

Klein, still a great American tool, hope they stay that way.

Any distributer should take them back and exchange. Klein will stand by them. Sometimes they are REAL tight. I have two sets of linesmans and one is great, the other is TIGHT. I have heard about rubbing them in sand and then working them, oiling the crap out of them, etc. But that didn't work for this one pair. I just keep them as extras by the side door to the van for repairs there when my toolbag is out at the unit/machine.

Key note..... When you buy the pliers go through the whole rack and find some that are already loose. I had a pair that no matter what i did they never got loose, so I took them back. I talked to klein and they told me to return then that they had problems from the factory with them being tight. I like mine so i can open/ use them with one hand. I like them to fly open easily.

Just my 2cents

Thanks to all who responded!

This method seemed to work the best. I did it for two nights and alot of lubricant. ;)

Brake fluid is even better and faster than WD 40.
