I have a RUDD high efficiency gas heater only a year old. The burner will only ignite when the access panel door is open (seems to allow air). If I close the access panel door completley the burner will just "huff" and not ignite. Then the fan turns on and blows cold air. Doesn't seem to be any obstructions in the intake or exhaust pipes outside of the house since I can feel suction on the intake pipe and feel air blowing out of the exhaust. Any ideas what could be going on here?

Since it's only a year old you are still under parts waranty and maybe labor. Call the installer and get it fixed.

Could be one or 2 of several things.
Since its so new.
Call the installing company.
You may still be under their labor warranty.
