I recently bought my house and it has 3 Trane systems in it that the previous owner installed himself but didn't completely finish. 2 units are XL16i units and one is a XL13i. All have TCONT802 touchpad controllers. The 16i units I know are heat pumps and they now work as they should after I had to finish wiring the auxillary electric strips into the units - for some reason he just left them disconected, and when the temp got down into the teens the house was cool in the areas with those units. To his credit he installed them back in March and it wasn't cold outside so maybe he was planning on getting to them later. Anyway, those are setup as type 12's 3/2 in the 802's and are now working fine since I added outside temp sensors. The XL13i however I am not sure if it is connected or programmed right or not. It is currently setup as a type 8 2h/2c unit in the 802, and it has a new gas furnace with it and it works strictly as an a/c for cool, and the gas furnace for heat with no heat pump operation. Is this because the XL13i is not a heat pump, or is it because he doesn't have the 802 programmed right? I would love for it to act as a heat pump as gas is expensive for heat all the time use and I would love to just have the gas furnace kick in when its below 40 or so. The model of the XL13i is 4TWX6024B1000AA but before I go playing around with the 802 touchpad controls I wanted to find out whether the unit actually was a heat pump or not. If not then it must be correct as programmed. It does work as programmed, just uses the gas furnace all the time. Thanks!
