what could possibly cause this to happen?
the evaporator coil in the cooler in the bottom of a prep table at a restaurant. the coil is frozen but only in the front right corner. the system runs and still cools. could this be due to a leak? which is condensing then freezing the water in that one spot. the suction line was not as cold as normal which most likely meant high superheat. i did not have a set of gauges at the time. but what would you suggest as a possilbe solution to the problem.

suspect low charge, but could be a number of things, hows airflow? all evap fans running? no plastic bags or anything blocking airflow? cap-tube or txv? what refrigerant, and pressures?

There are too many variables. You need tools to see whats going on. Thats just not enough info. Pressures & temperatures is the core of diagnostics. Without it no one can help you.

If the right front corner is the start of the where the evap is being fed, low charge is most likely. Hook up your gauges and check it out.

How long does the unit run for? Is there any defrosts or does it continue through out the day running continuously?

Hook up gages see what is going on
check air flow
find leek fix leek change filter presur test pull vacum charge system

I agree there is not enough info. Could be plugged cap/TXV, low charge, bad airflow as my top three.

What we tend to see on those little units is a low charge caused by a pinhole leak in the coil.

The low charge causes high superheat which causes long run cycles due to the embedded coil thermostats.

This long run cycle causes ice-ups.

do you need someone to ask you in spanish:

What are the pressures?
Cuales son las presiones?

With out more information we cant help you!

Step 1. Defrost Unit and Clean Evaporator Coil
Step 2. Restart Unit , Make sure All Evaporator Fans are Running . Comb fins if bent
Step 3. Check Preasures make sure they are correct for the Gas you are using.
Step 4. Check Superheat
Step 5. Post your results !
