View Full Version : Adding a bin stat to ice-o-matic

Got a customer with a ice-o-matic 2106 and 1800lb bin. Their business has declined and they're not using anywhere near as much ice as they used too. So their ice is becoming a hard block. They want me to install a thermostatic bin control to stop the bin from filling all the way up. Maybe half way at most. Should i wire the thermostatic bin stat between the " ice selector switch" and curtain bin switch 2" or between "curtain bin switch 1" and "relay 2"? It seems like both ways will work. But i just want to be sure.
Thanks

Have them cut it off and back on for a couple of days when the level is where they want it before installing the stat. They may find the ice still heals unless they use all in the bin daily. Putting a stat on may not help that problem.

Lay some milk crates in the bottom of the bin, hitting the ice several times a shift will keep it from freezing solid.

I've used like a 4000 series defrost timer on machines that were to big before. Might be easier than mounting some type of bin stat in the bin and praying they don't hit it with the ice scoop.

with a bin stat or a defrost timer? :D
I'm kinda liking the defrost timer idea. But it would suck if they happened to get busy and used more ice than expected. Milk crates aren't gonna work due to the shallowness of the bin below the door.

put the stat cap tube into a piece of copper tubing to protect it from the ice scoop

The stat will work just fine.

I found clear rubber hose works good too,( just not on bulb leave bare or copper to the hose on line between head and bulb) that way you can slide it all the way to the head. It will help protect copper on stat, from the scoop and is more flexable than the copper.
