It appears (when you listen) that the former employees are illegal aliens and for some reason the UEW is backing them. Now why would the Electrical Union want to back a bunch non americans; you think it is to bolster their waining ranks.

Doesn't state they are illegal but does state that 80% are Latino.

Of course, with the news reports on tv showing the spanish speaking workers, everyone will wonder if they are legal or not...;)

New Mexico has the largest per ca pita Hispanic population and you won't get a Union job w/o proof of citizenship. Most other jobs also.
Many Hispanic families have been here for several hundred years. Some before the pilgrims landed. They are also concerned about illegals.

There Hispanic Americans that don't speak English. Some small towns here are very remote and can be clannish but American none the less.

But no, Unions don't support illegals. In the construction industry they are a threat because of wages paid and work quality. In fact if you investigated Unions you'd find a whole bunch of conservatives in the rank and file.

Of course Unions are trying to benefit members. We pay them to represent us. But Unions and contractors are symbiotic. We need each other. Unions provide drug free licensed journeymen, train apprentices, and manage pensions and health benefits.
We work very close with our contractors. So close we haven't needed a strike clause in our contract for years.

Really? You know, it really would be better if you looked things up instead of making things up. Unions have been courting illegals for several years now;

This is the kind of crap that unions do to hurt companies that don't readily agree to unionization of their labor force;
UNITE HERE! filed multiple charges against Eagle Industries with the U.S. National Labor Relations Board this spring. Then on July 23, the union withdrew all charges.

Last Summer (2007) the custodial people that service all of the downtown buildings in Houston went on strike. They were not Union they were illegal aliens mostly. They were demanding a Union and they were supported by other Unions around here, we do not have many thankfully.

The point is the Unions backed their play because they wanted more Unions and they did not care that the people they were supporting were illegals.

These wonderful people used regular Union tatics like using human barricades to close down downtown Houston. They also deposited trash bags and other containers to block traffic.

Corny what the hell do you mean when you say we let them come up here? We the people of this country do not let them; they break our sovereign laws to sneak into our country. They bring with them disease, criminals and an absolute lack of understanding of our accepted morals.

They are classified illegal because they are criminals. If they wish to get here legally as those from many other nations do there is a legal process to gain citizenship.

My niece moved to New Zealand to be with the man she loves and is going to marry. To do so took considerable time and documentation to qualify, you do not see the world putting down the Kiwis because they have strict immigration laws and actually enforce them.

What do you suppose the unemployment factor would be in this country if the 12-20 million illegal aliens were not here sucking up jobs? What effect have they had on the finical meltdown? Several of the financial institutions that failed did so in part by providing loans to illegal aliens that they sought out to give away money to. Look at Bank of America and Countrywide. Around here they had billboards and ads all over in Spanish imploring illegal aliens to come in and qualify for a 0% down home loan with no credit check, they were gleefully joined by WaMu.
