Used to be you could buy 35 mm infrared film.

I guess you could do this

but you'd need targets of known temperatures to convert the image into usuable temp. readings.
For that many bucks I can do a lot of experimenting.:)

It begins to sound like all you need to see hot spots with any digital camera is an "infrared pass filter".

Since the stuff you're photographing is not moving, long exposure times is not a problem (but you'd probably need a tripod).

Once you find hot spots with the camera you could then use a thermistor/ohmmeter or thermocouple to check actual temperatures.

I think I invested around 4500 bucks in it.

You can get them with more bells and whistles but of all I looked at this one seemed to fit me best.

flir makes a good one as well. i don't have one lol just a poir service tech, but a friend of mine has a flir and loves it.

extech makes one.... i have no idea who extech is though :confused: someone told me they're fluke :confused: like a cheaper less featured fluke :confused:

4500,it may be awhile for me:o.....i looked at the flir,the cheapest one was around 1500....seems like one of these things would help us in the trade alot.
