So, like welcome to my thread eh! Wanna beer? :D
With our loonie no longer on par, where are my fellow canucks buying their tools? Is it still worth it to order from the US online with shipping/duty? I can't seem to find many Canadian sites through google. In particular I've been looking at getting a Makita 18V-XLT900 kit, a few sets of leads for my Fluke meter, some static test tips and maybe a few other goodies.
Thanks again eh! :D

RSL. They will ship you anything you need. Went on a rant there and edited it when I realized where you live not many wholesalers to choose from there. Haven't been to PR in years beautiful place you live.

your post gives me a little info on something i had been thinking about for a couple of years now- moving to canada.
i'm a former pegger (9 years), most of my mothers side of the family still lives in manitoba, and kinda miss it sometimes. as cold as it could be, the there is something peaceful about livin on the prairies.
anyhow, there is at least 9 1/2 months of a heating season there so no lack of work. but i've heard spotty opinions about ordering over the net there due to lack of stores and suppliers(?). the provincial tax is a little bit of a let down too.... the supply houses don't carry any of that kind of stuff or are they too far away?
any canucks out there give me some info as far as tool availability and/or work experiences?

Thanks MM. Try NO wholesalers here! We got CT, Rona and Timbermart. Not much of what I'm looking for in town. For those who don't know, Powell River is on mainland BC but is isolated by ferries. Vancouver is 2 ferries and 5+ hours away one way. Born and raised here so I'm used to it, but it makes shopping tough sometimes!

There are tons of supply houses and tons of work on the west coast. He just happens to live in friggin nowhere. I am 4 hrs from Vancouver and in a town of a 100 000 give or take but there is three hvac wholesalers countless electrical and plumbing etc. So no worries there. I am also from the peg originally I grew up in Transcona.

I got a bit of the tea pot calling the kettle black syndrome the town I actually live in consists of a gas station a fire hall a school and a church. The gas station sells beer for you americans thats really a significant statement in Canada. Do you know a guy named Kelly B.... he is from Powell River and I work for him. Rick Donnely is another guy I know from there very good family friends. SHot in the dark but you never know.

trutechtools.com has a warehouse in Canada and stocks a complete line of instrumentation, blower doors and Duct Testers, no duties or taxes because the transaction takes place in the US and the product is shipped from Canada.

I go to whistler pretty much every year. Unfortunately you will not be able to afford it on a fridge guys wage viciously expensive however Pemberton is about 30 mins away and it is affordable. You won't find anywhere with better snow sports than whistler. Very yuppie I might add but some people like that........rich ones

Sounds familiar, but I'm terrible with names. I'll recognise a face I've seen once for the rest of my life but I'd forget my own name if people weren't always shouting it at me. :o :D
And this definitely ain't Snowhere. We might get 2 snowfalls a year of 1-2" each that melts or is rained away in a couple of days. Welcome to the WET coast! :D
