Hi,
We have a problem with an IQ204 controller which is part of a Denco DX unit. Originally we had a faulty unit which was replaced by Denco but then would report a false high temp alarm. Since then Denco has 'reprogrammed' a number of controllers for us in an attempt to rectify the problem but each time the installed controllers report the same false high temp alarm. What we want to do is download a configuration from a good controller and load this on to one of the 'faulty' controllers. We have tried connecting a laptop to the supervisor port but can't get a response from the controller. Can someone help us with the RS232 connection to the controller?
Thanks,

I am trying to communicate with a trend IQ204 controller using an RJ11 - RS232 serial lead.
I am not able to get a response from the controller, I have checked the diagrams, and the cable appears to be correct.
If anyone has information they can provide it would be much appreciated.
I am particularly interested in the baud rate and handshaking settings, and whether I can communicate directly using hyperterminal.

Paddy,
No you cant connect through hyperterminal.
You will need proprietary software tools from Trend and appropriate licenses in order to communicate. SET, WUPDN or PowerTool were the last I used although I still have a copy of good old UPDN in DOS!
Orion, please correct me if I am wrong - I have not been in a Trend SI for a few years and also do not know the arrangements in the States.

Thanks very much, that explains a lot...
Has anyone got a copy of some software, that will allow me to download and upload firmware?

You cant Upload or Download firmware easily. There were/are tools available but they are rarely distributed even to Trend approved System Integrators (SI) or Trend Tech Centers (TTCs). I only ever recalled upgrading firmware in IQ3 series controllers which are a different beastie altogether.
With respect, I would urge you to contact Trend or a TTC/SI as these tools are restricted for a reason (well, two actually!).
You can find them and a list of partners at

It's the same here. To get your hands of the software you will need to get in touch with a dealer. I doubt any of them will just give out the software.
