I've posted on here before, and have also showed off some of my work to a few members. I'm at a point in my career where, doing graphics is a hobby that I enjoy to do, and I feel that I'm very good at it. This is not in the scope of my every day job, so I'm at the point to where I'm wondering if its worth it to try to make money off of it. I knew (from experience), that the real people to ask about the industry, were the control guys themselves. How often do some of you guys pull in people from outside to assist with providing high end custom graphics to your customers? I'm trying to get a feel for the industry, so I can try to determine whether theres a need for the services I'm capable of providing. Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thanks alot!

We are in the UK,
We have used a guy that we knew (who does Grreat! graphics) for a couple of jobs where they wanted some tasty looking stuff.
He was in your boat a little bit - he left a BMS company that went bust and set up with a friend doing a few different things but still would look at front end systems for BMS inc Gx provision.
I don't think he had the workload to do this full time (or else didn't want to take it on full time.
Not much help for you as this market is over the pond.

Thanks alot for your input. Yeah it sounds like my story is similar to the guy you speak of. Here recently, I've did a few graphics here and there for no particular reason, and realized how much I enjoyed it. I'm in no way shape or form arrogant, but I feel some of my stuff is pretty close to the best out there. So I'm considering tryin to make a little profit off of my hobby, if I can. I'm not lookin to get rich, just lookin for alittle more of a reward to go along with the gradification I get from doin this stuff. Thanks alot!

If your work is decent :D I have a few contacts.
Actually I think you've sent me some of your work. The tough part I don't think is building the graphics, but re-selling the same graphic over and over. I mean for example I've got my own library that I just copy parts over and over. I don't know how you would prevent someone from copying your one graphic, short of charging a premium for it. Anyway I seem to hear of a lot of people wanting help, not sure how much graphics help exactly but either way it is help for controls. Anyway my email is in my profile.
gnomethang - with the internet and ftp/other you could pay controlyourmind to do your graphics - unless I am missing something I would think both sides of the pond want graphics.

PM me bitmap samples of your graphics along with what you'd want for them.
If you were given hard copy mechanical drawings or CAD or Visio drawings of floorplans and panel/architectural layouts and a station, could you produce a turnkey package including floorplans, tabbed graphics (general graphic with drill down detailed points graphic, and Panel/Submittal PDF's) with hyperlinks where appropriate?
Of course we'd have to trust you with our developed station as you'd have to trust us with your graphics. We call it Intellectual Property.
With us it's a time window issue.
The best saying I've heard is "I only work half days and still I'm still behind after those 12 hours".
