i keep looking around and cant find a socket set that has atleast 3/8 and 1/2sockets and that are standard only, i dont need the metric trash. I was looking at sears and every set has metric, after a while i realized that the reason is because those are for mechanics, i started noticing signs that said mechanics tool sets, so im wondering if anyone knows of a place where i can find a set for our trade. i know there out there, i once saw a tech with a nice socket set that were standard only and had 1/4,3/8,and 1/2, all of that came in a nice black hard plastic case, this was a couple of years ago and i wish i had asked him then. can someone point me in the right direction, thanks gents.:)

Try Grainger. One of the new mechanics just got a 3/8 and 1/2 SAE sets in a hard cases. Go to Grainger's web site and type in socket set. Hope this helps

Usually I buy them in spares. Made in japan and cost slightly higher than boxed set, for a few bits should be ok. Rust resistence.

If insist on box set, how about Stanley? I love their spanners.:)

WTF is a SPANNER? A wrench?

Boy you Brits got some funny names for tools:)

Nope.

An adjustable spanner, shifting spanner, shifter, crescent wrench or adjustable-angle head wrench (American English) is a tool (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tool) which can be used to loosen or tighten a nut (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nut_(hardware)) or bolt (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Screw#Bolt). It has a "jaw" (the part into which the nut or bolt goes) which is of adjustable size, which allows for different size nuts and bolts to be handled by the same spanner. Compare this to the ordinary spanner (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wrench) which has a fixed size. In France it is called an "English Key" and in Denmark it is called a "Swedish Key".

I got a small SAE set made by kobalt for LP conversions and such. Did a lot of them and got sick of fool'n around with larger tools. I think I picked it up at lowes, but I could be wrong.

If you're going to use it constantly, you might look for something more substantial, but I've used it for a while and it works pretty well. I've considered getting more kobalt stuff, but I haven't had to replace anything.
