York Affinity HP - help

I recently had a new Affinity system installed in my home. Everything has worked fine and the comfort factor is way up from the 20-year-old unit it replaced.

The last two days, around 5 pm, the sun is setting (my condenser is on the south side of my house) outside temp is about 65 ish. My thermostat makes a call for heat, the blower starts in the air-handler, but the outdoor unit (compressor and fan both) do not start. The blower continues to run and run, but the outdoor unit never comes on. No strip heat turns on either. I have to manually satisfy the thermostat by lowering the set-point to the indoor temp, or turning the thermostat to the off position. Once I do either of these, I can raise the temperature set-point back to where it was, or set the stat back to auto, and the system resets and runs as it should.

I have called the HVAC company, they are planning to make a service call and address the issue. BUT, I want to be armed with knowledge so I can quiz the tech and make sure my problem is identified and addressed. SO, here are my questions.

I know there are temperature sensors on the outdoor unit. Could this be locking it out if it senses the coil temperature is too high to safely operate? If so, how can this feature be managed to prevent my system from shutting down and not operating until it is reset?

There are safeties that can cause that.
If there was a way to over ride them. Then damage could be done to the system.

If a safety is doing its job. Then the cause has to be found. Safeties protect the system, and you from harm.

Since this is a recent install.
There is a chance the charge is not correct.
Or, the blower CFM is not set up correctly.
Either of the above 2 can cause a high pressure lock out to occur.

What type of air filter are you using.
A very restrictive filter could cause the air flow to drop enough during warmer heating days to also trip a high pressure safety.

Sounds like locking out on high head. Most people don't call for heat with temp in the mid 60s out. Carrier used to have a fan cycle kit on their Puron heat pumps to keep the head down in mild weather. Does York offer that option, been?

Thanks for the help, guys. I will look at the fault codes today and reference them to my owners manual.

I am using an older electronic air filter ahead of a 5" pleated filter. I am religious about maintenance and keep everything clean.
