My plumber has given me a quote for a new Munchkin 190 boiler with the Vision 1 controls. I understand the Vision 1 controls to include the outdoor temperatures, etc. Since I must replace my existing gas hot water boiler due to a leak, and the gas company gives me a rebate check, spending more for the Munchkin makes financial sense over just a straight replacement for the Burnham series 2 that now leaks.

What are the benefits I might actually realize if I spend a bit more and get the vision 2 controls? The vision 2 allows control over the mixing valve that controls the radiant floor circuit I have. Currently, the mixing valve is controlled by a stand alone Viessman control on this 9 year old system. The Munchkin manufacturer says that with the Vision 2, the boiler will only heat to the much lower temperature of the radiant heat when that is all that is needed, so I will save money. My question is how much will I really save? Currently, the boiler rarely runs when just the radiant system calls for heat as the 3 fin/tube circuits go on often enough to keep the water temperature much warmer. But, that is all with the conventional boiler and the high minimum water temperature. Are 9 year old electronics worth dumping just because they are 9 years old and electronics become obsolete, etc

Lastly, are there any bells and whistles I should consider on the controls such as integrated thermostats, etc?
