Carrier dual fuel 5 ton unit with Copeland scroll compressor model number ZP50K3E-PFV-130 in service for 3 years. Compressor sound like a Ford Model A getting ready to throw a rod. Lot of internal rattling and noise. Is this normal or is something getting ready to blow? Have a Grandaire unit which is no where near as noisy.

you might want to hae the guy come out and take a look at it tomorrow :)
kinda hard to hear it running from here :)
i do know that some system's do make a little more noise than other's due to the cabinets construction. lots of rattle noise coming from poor construction. but if you say it is compressor related you had better get a proffesional out there to check things out :)

I'm supprised you can't hear it. It's a package unit I installed myself 3 years ago. Using propane as the alternate fuel when temp drops below 35. Noise is unusual and relatively loud, could easily hear from inside the house. Unit did not make this sound until recently. Also seems to be running a long time and not heating as it should.

not too good :o
hopefully there is still parts warranty since you installed it yourself. usually that will null and void the warranty

Compressor is supposed to have 10 year parts warranty. I'm a licensed mechanical and electrical contractor, but stick to electrical and controls primarily. Don't get involved in compressors, refrigerants, etc. if the pipes don't have wire in them I don't mess with em.

cool :) well have the guy come out and see what is going on. it doesn't sound too good to me :( also i would check the airflow of this system and make sure that it is moving enough. 3yrs is really a short life for a comp :)
